Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This K-Tel comp sold over a million copies back in the day (who can forget those TV ads?). The vinyl gives way to CD but the music remains the same: 14 of the baddest funk and soul hits of the 70s: Brick House Commodores; Get on the Good Foot James Brown; Love Rollercoaster Ohio Players; What s Going On Marvin Gaye; Masterpiece Temptations; Keep on Truckin Eddie Kendricks, plus Stevie Wonder, Pointer Sisters and more!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't fall for the BS, August 9, 2009
No, this album didn't sell a million copies back in the day, and as the vinyl gives way to CD, the music does NOT remain the same. Why? Because only three tracks on this collection were on the original vinyl Lp.

The ads WERE memorable because they featured Isaac Hayes as a DJ, ostensibly touting the album over the airwaves.
His "Theme from Shaft" was THE featured cut on the album. So were the Staples' "Respect Yourself", Joe Tex' "I Gotcha", Barbara Mason's "Give Me Your Love", Millie Jackson's "My Man, A Sweet Man", Love Unlimited"s "Walkin' In the Rain With the One I Love", Joe Simon's "Power of Love", Honey Cone's "Want Ads", Freda Payne's "Band of Gold", and MANY others which DO NOT appear on this CD.

For the record, the ONLY three tracks to make the transition are James Brown's "Get On the Good Foot", Jerry Butler's "One Night Affair" and Free Movement's "I've Found Someone of My Own".

The rest of this CD is bull. While listing the songs above, I was copying directly from my MINT copy of the original K-tel album (Published 1973 K-tel Int'l, serial # NU-427).

Don't believe the hype, but judging from the fact that this piece of crap is already on sale A MONTH AFTER ITS RELEASE, and that it's already available from MANY vendors as USED, no one's falling for it.

BTW - same goes for the sequel, "Super Bad is Back".
