I bought these for my 12 yr old daughter who loves rollerblading but wasn't very experienced. She had a good pair about 2 years ago that she began to learn on and for her birthday last year I bought her a pair from Kmart not knowing that the poor quality would make her slip and slide and trip on bumps. The result was that she hardly used them. I did some research and chose these K2's after learning the importance of wheel size for beginners and good frames for absorbing bumps. Also, I liked that you can change to a bigger wheel size for more speed when my daughter gets better at skating. She loves these and says they glide over the bumps, the cloth boot is very comfortable and the straps make it supportive around the ankle. It gives her confidence to skate. The quality is excellent and the skate is just as described. I am very satisfied with this purchase!!

My wife loves K2 skates, shes been wanting a pair for awhile and when we went to a local sports store that used to carry them and she tried the Athenas on in the store she loved them even more. Unfortunately we could afford them at the time. Well, I decided to surprise her with a Christmas present this year, her favorite skates of course. So they got here just a couple days before Christmas and she was thrilled, until she tried them on. She had previously tried on the 2011 K2 Athenas and loved those, everyone was sold out of the 2011 of course, so I bought her the 2012 and they should have been the same, but k2 decided to tweak some small things for the sake of making some sort of change I imagine. If you look closely and compare the 2011 with the 2012 Athenas, K2 changed the structure of the ankle support. Its just a minor change, it looks like it is mostly cosmetic, instead of the older 2 smaller "holes" across your heel and your Achilles tendon, they made one large one that goes from slightly above the heel and encompasses (or rather, exposes) the Achilles tendon. The support right at the top, the lip the turns outward is slightly different as well, the older one looks like it doesnt turn out quite so much. In any case, these design changes cause the skates to dig in to my wife's calves. Its painful for her to skate upright, not that you do that much, she crouches and speeds everywhere, but when shes just hanging out or taking a break it causes some pretty severe pain. She loves the skates otherwise, everywhere except that one spot is extremely comfortable and they handle like a dream, some of the smoothest skates shes owned, but she doesnt know if she can keep them because the hurt so much. Shes going to try to see if she will get used to them for a little bit, but they shouldnt be like that to begin with...

These skates look great and feel great on. They are of good quality as you would expect of K2.. I've had mine over a year now and done a fair few kilometres on them. I have had no issues with them at all.

I love these skates, wasn't sure they were going to fit. I wear a 9 in heels and I was tempted to buy them in a ten. I took a leap of faith and purchased my good ole faithful size 9. Surprisingly they fit with some toe room which I am happy about because it allow some room for the socks and not pinch your toes. The hardest thing to do though is to strap them up. Its awkward to get down pact how to strap them up but when you realize which way to pull and tighten the strap you can get them on in less than one minute. I have stood up on them for ten minutes holding on the wall just to see how it would feel being stationary and they are comfortable. I have taken them for a spin around my block twice just to see how they move, The ride is pretty smooth even on the bumpiest NYC paved street. Very easy to navigate, not hard to make turns but braking is something that may be awkward the first time or two but one you become one with your skates you shouldn't notice at all after that. They are pretty light in my opinion, not hard to lift or maneuver your feet and the speed on them is awesome for me. I love these skates, the color is very basic and can be put with any pair of yoga pants or sweats. If these skates were to ever break or get lost I wouldn't hesitate to purchase again.

True fit! I am a size 10 (shoe size) and size 10 of the skates fit so perfectly! The 'test drive' was awesome, smooth and graceful. Brakes will take some getting use to but, its nice and very comfortable!

Compared to my previous skate(FForward, hello!), this Athena-baby is really made of lightweight durable materials.

As for aesthetics, hey c`mon, she`s pretty right? Yup she is. Thanks skate coach (J.O) for recommending these. They are most excellent!!!

Shoe fits nice and not to tight. The Wheels roll easy over asphalt. Have not been tested yet on another surface. Wear and tear seems not to be an issue. Good support for the ankle.
