2.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get full charge January 23, 2011
I was so happy to find this product but my first K3 wouldn't charge past the medium level. I talked to the manufacturer. I had to send it back to them, which cost me $ since I'm not in the US. They sent me another, but the same thing happens. I followed all procedures but nothing makes it fully charge, not even the AC power. It's a pity, even if the price now is much lower I'd think twice. Unfortunately it doesn't have power enough to charge a cell phone.

4.0 out of 5 stars better than nothing, but short on expectations August 2, 2010

First off this was a must have for charging the cell phones in camp! It kept the ipods and cameras alive too...with a little time management. It did fall short on what the maker states however. Supposed to get a full charge with 8 hours in the sun....it doesn't. Here in the islands we get solid 10 hr. plus days of sun in the summer plus all night wind power from the Trade-Winds and this would only go to 3/4 charge. With a little time management it still doable so its not a big deal, just be advised that the claims are a little over what your actual results will be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but... June 15, 2010

This product has two methods of generating power, and they were equally disappointing.

The Wind Turbine:
This part was about as sturdy as a pinwheel, and after a brief stint on the front of my motorcycle, I found that it (the turbine) had broken off of the charger altogether. Even before it broke, it never really achieved a full charge.

The Solar Panel:

I'd have to say that I either received a lemon, or this product is a fraud that belongs in the late-night QVC catalog. I left this product in the sun for an entire day. An ENTIRE DAY. I got about five minutes worth of charging out of it each time I did so. I had hoped this would serve me well while I was traveling out of country, but it turned out to be a waste of money, space and energy. On top of that, there was no return option when I purchased it. This may have changed since I bought the item a year or so back.

TLDR: Doesn't work. Save your money and rub your hands together to create static electricity instead.

The product itself was a good idea, but in reality didn't really work. It would hold a charge enough to charge your cell phone for sure, but getting it to acquire the power through sun/wind to get to that point is, well...not good. After HOURS in the sun and wind (both at the same time, sunny windy day) it was only then able to give my phone enough juice to turn it on, not much more and again, it had been in the sun and wind FOR HOURS.

Now, onto the seller Luke M Nichols. If you come across ANYTHING from this seller DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! This person is a low life to the nth degree. Took a MONTH to ship the product. Amazon emailed me telling me they themselves were cancelling the order because it hadn't shipped yet. So, I found another seller with one and bought theirs. Theirs showed up, THEN the Luke M Nichols one showed up. By this time I had opened the first one and discovered it didn't work...returned it to them, no problem. Luke M Nichols on the other hand resulted in being insulted, called names, etc...Here are just a few quotes from the email(s) I received from this person while TRYING (still trying) to get them to return this item (starts out insulting/borderline but not horrible and gets worse from there; and apparently the seller can't spell either; not that I'm a genius, but this guy takes the coned cap award):

"I'm not going to return something that is brand new in the package. Figure out how to use it. If you are having a hard time reading the instructions( which it sounds like you are) then call the help line on the back. I am not responcable for buyers regreat either"

"For you to ask to return this product do to operator era is just insane and has no merit in this platform.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it could be July 29, 2010
I was really happy to find this type of charger available because of my need for charging my iphone while camping. The charger charged well when plugged in the wall at home before we left and it fully charged my phone almost 3 times from the initial wall charge, but trying to get a charge from the solar or wind was a very long process. Leaving the charger in full sunlight for a (full sun up to sun down) day only gave maybe a quarter charge on the charger that only charged the phone less than half way. Also tried charging it on a steady windy day, a full day of wind charging gave even less of a charge than sun. I guess it's better than not having any way to charge stuff when your out in the woods, but it could have been so much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased September 9, 2011

One month ago I took this solar charger out of our emergency kit and plugged it in (for the first time) so we would have it fully charged while on a camping trip. We went on the trip but never needed the charger. I came home and put it back into the emergency kit. Yesterday, when Southern California lost power, I pulled it out. It still had sufficient charge to fully charge my phone in less than an hour. My son and I took it in the car with us and he held it out of the window to get the fan going. We probably gave it a good 20 minutes of wind charging (while my phone was plugged into it). We then used it to fully charge my husband's iphone and my son's Droid. I am extremely pleased. I consider it an essential piece of readiness.
