Like most of the mfgs today, you have to go on line for the manual.

I was surprised about the appearance, from the picture it looked pretty plain, but actually it's a very attractive notebook.
DCB
This was annoying, but where I started to get angry was when I tried to buy the restore disk.

I took a chance ordering on line because I couldnt find an Asus locally.
The fit and finish of this laptop is impressive. The Mocha color seems to
be more attractive than black or silver. It has a ribbed finish and the touchpad
stays pretty cool. It comes with a plethora of crapware which I havent yet taken
the time to get rid off, but I sure as hell will. It is probably the reason that
it is a little slow on getting to my screen. Although not as slow as that POS Lenovo that I sold off for twentyfive bucks. Like most of the mfgs today, you
have to go on line for the manual. Another PITA. I would rather they charged
another 10 or 20 dollars for a full manual. The unit feels quite substantial
and well made. Ive only had this for a few days so its pretty early to give an
accurate in depth review. I do have one problem which I emailed Asus about. The right
click on the touchpad does not allow me to "X" out or click on other tabs, as
nothing happens. I have to use an external mouse. Sort of defeats the reason
for buying a laptop. They claim they will respond in 24 to 48 hours. Didnt happen.
I'll give them one more day and then I'll call Amazon for a replacement. I'll
see what happens in the next day or two. So far I'm not too enthralled with the
Asus support. Hope I didnt make a serious error in my purchase decision. If it all
works out, I'll update my review in about 4 weeks. Asus finally responded to my email
and they stated that the reason for the delay was due to a server problem. However,
by that time I discovered that it was a "USER" error and I resolved it. So far, Im very pleased
with this laptop. Dont think I could have found a better product. Unfortunately for me
Amazons price has dropped by $20.00 and they dont price match on computers. Now its a
really good buy if your in need of a decent laptop.

I've only had this computer for a couple of days, but so far I love it. I wasn't sure about the ASUS brand because I hadn't heard of it before, but after doing some research and checking CNET's opinion on ASUS, I decided to go with it and so far I couldn't be more pleased. Like I said I've only had it for a few days but so far I haven't had any issues with it and everything I've tried works just fine. I was surprised about the appearance, from the picture it looked pretty plain, but actually it's a very attractive notebook. I love the ribbed brown cover, it's almost a copper shade, and the outside dimensions make the whole notebook look very sleek, eventhough it has a large 15.6 screen. The inside isn't anything fancy, but the color looks great here too. The battery life isn't great, but it isn't that bad either--I seem to be averaging about 3 hrs on a battery charge. The only issue I had so far was trying to locate the webcam application; I never did find it, but when I loaded Skype it automatically launched. One thing I was really impressed about was the 2 year limited warranty and 1 year accident warranty included-I've owned 3 Dell laptops prior to this one and I've never seen that before. Somehow I missed that the warranty info in the product description, so that was a very pleasant surprise. Overall, I think this is a great notebootk at a great price. Since I haven't had much time to use it yet, I plan to update with a review in about 6 months in order to give a more accurate review.

Update, March 14, 2013. After having this computer for about two months, it developed a hardware issue. One day a jagged black line appeared at the bottom of my screen, and over a couple of weeks it grew progressively taller and wider.

I bought this laptop Christmas 2011 and got it for a pretty good deal. I am disappointed though. The laptop itself is a nice size and weight but the framing around the screen is kind of a cheap plastic. The keyboard is responsive but the track pad is horrid. First off, it has weird texture to it, it also seems way to sensitive- I've gone into settings to try and set it to my liking but it just sucks, it kind of skips/jumps like it loses track of your finger. The laptop is speedy and keeps up with tasks and had no issues with lag or anything. Now it's out of commission because the ac jack has stopped working and won't take a charge (I tested the cord and it still works just fine). My option is to send it somewhere to get repaired, which I haven't even had it but just over a year and a half and already this, usually that comes after 3 years, I had expect the OS to crap out before that. Disappointed!

All in all, if you can over look the trackpad and maybe use a wireless/bluetooth mouse and then hopefully your ac port won't crap out then it's an ok laptop. I still worry about that cheap like housing for the screen.

My laptop is still pretty new, but I have suffered a major problem with it. When I called tech support, I got a completely incompetent person who not only was not able to help me in any way, he did not appear to even be listening to me most of the time. Unfortunately, while this person's incompetence was matched or exceeded only by his inability to pay attention, neither he, nor the next person I talked to, were able to help me correct the problem.

Then I was told that I had two options: One was to purchase a restore disk for $50, which they would not waive. The second was to send it in for free under warranty. I thought it was funny that they would let me send it in for free, including no charge for shipping either way, when they wouldn't send me a free restore disk. The shipping alone is going to cost more than $50. This was annoying, but where I started to get angry was when I tried to buy the restore disk.

When I went to their little online store (you can't just buy it from tech support) and selected the disk, the only option that it gave me was to pay $44.70 for 2nd Day FedEx shipping. Now, I live in AK, but it: A) doesn't cost that much to ship 1 disk even next day, and B) if it did, they need to give me an option that doesn't nearly match the cost of their lousy disk!

When I called the store and asked if they could ship it using a different method (lots of companies do, even relatively lousy ones, when this issue comes up), and was told "no". This was the one positive note of the whole thing, because he did tell me that tech support might be able to provide a coupon to defray the cost. Strangely enough, they did give me a code that was supposed to give me a $25 dollar discount. However, when I put it in, it was only good for half of that.
