Many users of Crystal Reports like the portability it offers: reports can be exported into Word, Excel, or HTML (workgroups can share information using IE, Netscape, or other compliant Web browsers). All types of reporting are included--charts, conditional and summary reports, and others--making interactive analysis not only possible, but easy. Needless to say, the reports can also be used for professional presentations or printed to hard copies.
However, the key to Crystal Reports' success lies in the possibilities offered to developers. For example, here's a particularly well-done improvement: the ability to include JavaBeans within the latest version of its Smart Viewer. Windows development environments are also possible, since Crystal Reports supports Visual Basic, C++, J++, Visual InterDev, and even Delphi. Data can be imported from myriad sources too, including PC and SQL databases, as well as ODBC-compliant and Microsoft data sources (Exchange, Outlook, NT event logs, ADO, RDO, and DAO).
On a final note: the feature we liked best was the geographic mapping tool. It was blindingly simple to insert and manipulate maps--a general pattern we saw often while working with Crystal Reports.
