This is a cute product, but I can't justify buying one.

This is a tea mug without a handle, but with a velvety "touch surface" to protect your hand from heat.

The product itself is of a very nice quality and aesthetically appealing.

The Kahla Touch Cup is an interesting little gizmo. It's made of ceramic and has a nice weight to it. The red fabric splotches give you a place to hold the cup without burning your hands, and there is a tiny slot to hold your teabag. It does just what the description says, and it's not bad looking. There's just one problem: What's the point? Why buy something that is about as unnecessary as that inside-the-egg egg scrambler? I mean, any mug in the cupboard holds your tea, you can use the handle to keep your hand from getting burned, and a teaspoon is perfect for fishing out a fallen tea bag tag. If any of these tasks leaves you feeling confused or dizzy, then it probably would be best not to go messing around with boiling water in the first place.

I should point out, I'm lazy. Way past lazy. I pick stuff up with my toes to avoid bending. When I had a dog, I'd pretend I didn't see him licking plates so I wouldn't have to rinse before putting them in the dishwasher. (If you have eaten at my house, this was that dog I had a long time ago, way before I even knew you. Not the last couple of dogs. Really.) I'm not just bone lazy, I'm also impatient. I own a Keurig. I have a microwave 3 minute egg cooker that cooks them in 2 minutes. You'd think the Kahla Touch Five Senses 1 Piece Teacup with Slot (and don't ask me to say it again or I'll come after you) would be right up my alley, but it's not. It's no better than what we're already drinking our tea from, unless you have upped me in the lazy Olympics and hold a teabag in your teeth while pouring water in your mouth.

Selecting this item, I was intrigued that it was from Germany. I lived in Germany for many years and everything I owned over there was well made. I did not think this would be an exception.

I have been using this for many weeks now and have to say I really like it. However, there is only one thing I do not like about this mug and it is the main selling point. My only con would be I do not understand the slit for the tea, meaning the use. I know it is there so the tea bag can hang over the side but I see no difference than hanging over a standard mug because it is still going to hit you in the face when you are getting down to the last few sips and it is also still going to stay in place when you hold it on the outer mug.

I actually like the fact that it does not have a handle on the mug. On cold nights it was a treat to hold the hot/warm mug to get my cold hands warm. I never found it too hot either. The felt that is over the mug seems to add another protection that even if the water was piping hot, it was not too hot to hold. I was worried that the felt that is on the side of the mug might start to come off but it is really on there. I have hand washed the mug and also placed it in the dishwasher and the felt washes very well! It also dries very well.

This has become the mug I grab on colder days. I like holding the warm mug up against my hand and live the bright red color it has. I am very impressed with the use I have had out of it and it looks like new.

This product is . . . interesting. If it appeals to your sense of style and design, you will like it a lot, but if it doesn't, you will be left wondering how it's better than a traditional teacup or why its worth its currently hefty pricetag.

The cup is thin, high quality porcelain, with a soft red band that's meant to allow you to pick up hot drinks, and a small notch in the top to hold the string from a tea bag. The whole thing is dishwasher safe, and so far it's been through our dishwasher several times without any noticable wear to the soft strip, so so far, so good on durability, even after dozens of washing so far. The style is very modern - the contrasting red and white areas and no handle produce a distinctive look.

Kahla sells this as a sensory experience, and the soft feel of the grip strip and the thin coolness of the porcelain do produce a slightly different experience than just drinking tea from a coffee mug.

Update 08/01/2014: We've probably run this through the dishwasher two dozen times, and the cloth strip is still nice. Thumbs up on durability.
The best I can do is to paraphrase Robert Ebert and say that if you like this sort of thing, then this is the sort of thing you will like. Is it much different from just drinking your tea from a porcelain teacup with a handle? Many people would probably say no, but it's a more modern, stylish aesthetic, and if that sounds like your, um, cup of tea, then recommended.

The Kahla tea cup is attractive. It is a porcelain cup, with a wine colored band. The band, which partially covers where normally your hands would fit (minus half of an inch to an inch), is meant to protect your hand from the hot contents. There is a notch/groove in the cup which you can use to hang the paper portion of the tea bag on, or if you use a diffuser you can attach it there as well. The cup is small and feels comfortable in my hand, but I am not sure if the size would appeal to a man. While the product description says that you can microwave it, I usually heat my water in a tea pot or in a different cup in the microwave, and transfer it. It also says that this cup is dishwasher safe. While I think it would make it thru the washing cycle, I worry about the band, and therefore wash it by hand.

There are two things about this product that I am not sure about. The first….the band does not really protect your hand from the heat. The cup is hot to the touch and I still had to let it sit a moment to cool off. Of course you are thinking if it is too hot to touch, it is probably too hot to drink. But even when the contents have cooled to a degree, I found that the “felt” was still a little warm. And since the band is one of the features that are showcased, I really expected it to make a big difference in the handling of the cup. Perhaps the company could look at trying to make one with a silicon type band (I have some of the silicone pot holders that work great from protecting your hand and your counters from hot items). Which still would work since I heat my water separately anyway. And finally, I am not sure if this item is worth the cost? I think $25 is a bit steep. I can use my regular mugs and have the same result.
