5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff!

My first cat, a wonderful Maine Coon, lived to be 23 and half years old before dying a natural death at home in my arms. In the course of his life, he had only one health problem and that was a urinary infection due to the dry food I had been feeding him. (Little did I know at that time) That's it. My first cat, a wonderful Maine Coon, lived to be 23 and half years old before dying a natural death at home in my arms. In the course of his life, he had only one health problem and that was a urinary infection due to the dry food I had been feeding him. (Little did I know at that time) That's it. Twenty three and half years of great health, and mainly due to quality canned food (Cornacopia (now out of business, and Wellness and Newman's Own - never "recalled") and the wonderful Vita Mineral Mix recipe found in The Natural Cat book by Anitra Frazier. This recipe calls for Bone Meal and I have used
KAL Bone Meal for years. Since the death of my beloved Maine Coon, I have two American short hair cats who eat a raw meat diet according to The Natural Cat, and they also receive the Vita Mineral Mix. Thick, glossy, shiny coats, and very mellow happy loving cats. What more could you ask for!

I use this for my pets with their home-cooked meals. Dissolves easily, and they don't even know it's there (for my finicky eater). Provides the extra calcium they require for a balanced diet. Thanks for this product!

I buy bone meal powder to add to my dog's diet since I cook for her myself. I love this product. I do wish that the opening was larger as it doesn't fit a tablespoon , but I do like buying it here. The price is right and it is delivered quickly.

Easy to mix in w/my little dog's food - as prescribed by her vet.
Would purchase again as needed - reasonably priced.

My little pup was having seizures as he turned a year old so I started reading books, blogs, articles on how to keep your pets healthy. Along with that I spoke with our vet who stated that home cooked meals are ok but to ensure our pup had enough calcium in his diet every day. He suggested grinding one Tums tablet in his meal. I knew the dog would not like the taste so I purchased Kal bone meal and came up with a good, healthy recipe using this, another source of calcium, the omegas. vitamins, etc. I'm happy with Kal bone meal for its purity and consistency. He's been on it for almost a year and so far so good.

I have not bought this but I have dogs eating home-cooked with added calcium supplements and would like to share my experience with others. At the very beginning (2 years ago) I did buy the Now brand bone meal and added that daily to my dogs' meal. It stank and the dust dispersed very easily in the air and as a vegetarian myself, I didn't feel good about inhaling ground up cow bones daily. The price also is pretty steep.

So these days I have switched to food grade ground limestone (Calcium Carbonate), also bought in bulk on amazon (10 lb Food Grade Calcium Carbonate Ground Limestone Powder).
I did a little kitchen test where CaCO3 is neutralized with vinegar, and compared the reaction with foaming and bubble production. The bulk ground limestone was very similar with the Now brand CaCarbonate supplement I take myself, so I have no qualms about feeding this to my dogs.

I also use one of the calorie counting websites (fitday dot com) to plan my dogs' meals and find out the amount of Ca and Phosphorus in the weekly meal I cook. The recommended ratio is about 1.2 part Ca to 1 part P so I just add the extra Ca needed.
