GMAT in the rush, 3 days to prepare: Kaplan's book ->740/800,
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN GMAT CAT 1998 WITH CD- ROM (Paperback)
I had to take the GMAT to apply for a business school, but only 3 days to prepare it. I am not even a native speaker. I read the book, and did the problems. Contrary to other CDs, the tests on this CD are even a little bit harder than during the real GMAT CAT. My advice is: use everything they say, this is the optimal strategy. If I did it, you can do it too. I am sure you could even do better, if you take the time to practice the way they say. -Frederic-

Solid Test Prep,
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN GMAT CAT 1998 WITH CD- ROM (Paperback)
The best thing about Kaplan's materials is that they are tougher than the real thing. Rather than getting a false sense of security entering the test, scoring low on the Kaplan tests will make you want to study harder to prepare for the real thing. We wouldn't recommend using just the Kaplan materials. Pick up the Official Guide to the GMAT to augment your studying. However, buying this book will put you on the right track to a stellar GMAT score.

seems to be the best test prep material around,

i never really read the book but the cd-rom was a very good compilation. the maths section was a little easy and their lessons were very basic but the reading comprehension and the critical reasoning sections were very helpful.the sentence correction section could have been more difficult though. Finally the tests were more difficult than they usually are in the gmat but they could have included a few more tests in the cd-rom format.Overall it is a software worth recommending to anyone sitting for the gmat, certainly one of the best, if not the best testprep material around.

Very good CD-ROM, so-so tests,

Kaplan put together a fine book and CD-ROM package. The CD is very well done, and the GMAT lessons are entertaining, interactive, and informative. The only problem is that the sample tests are not really indicative of the real GMAT difficulty. Actually the Kaplan ones are harder. So if you want to push yourself, get this book and if you do well, then you will most likely get just as high or an even higher score when test day rolls around.

This book won't replace basic knowledge: Never,
This review is from: KAPLAN GMAT CAT 1998 WITH CD- ROM (Paperback)
For that purpose you need to read more than one book and maybe take some classes. This book + CD performs beautifully for what it is intended for: practice, timing and get to know how the exam works. Nice, well done job with user friendly software. Some minor weakness around the following: *Only 3 completely different full exams *The array of questions in the practice tests is not as varied as in the real exam. *The actual exam has some more difficult questions, and curiously, easier ones too. *The tutorials are on the basic side. *Some bla bla bla too kidish. *Online add-ins non existent (would be a nice touch to partially actualize old software versions).I've read some completely unjustified bad comments here, to those people: Separate what is your fault from the inherent quality of the book.

Worth Every Penny!,

I would recommend this book to anyone. I recently took the GMAT CAT and scored 30 points higher on the actual test than I had been scoring on the practice tests! The book includes a CD ROM loaded with tips and information as well as GMAT sample tests. I am very confident that with the KAPLAN book my score was tremendously improved.

Not Impressed,

I tried the Kaplan prep guide and was very unimpressed with the quality of the CD. The Net result: I got a refund. Try ETS.

I expected a lot more from this package. The CD-ROM was faulty. I bought the set in November; today is February 1 and I still don't have a replacement CD, so I can't comment on that. Don't count on tech support for any meaningful feedback - in fact, don't even count on them being there to answer the phone (both the book & the answering machine publish the wrong hours, so don't expect anything other "normal business hours"). Also, the call is a toll call, so $$$. Oh, and don't be surprised if when you do get through, they can't help you out because their computers are down (happened on 3 occasions). Customer service is filled with idiots too. Like I said, bought the thing in November, it's February...'nuff said. The text questions are okay, but there are too many "shortcut" methods for the more difficult problems. These are precisely the instances in which I would like to have the logic explained. I'm ordering the PowerPrep. Hopefully I'll have better luck with it. NOT buying another Kaplan product. Ever.

Very good package,

This is a very good package. The logic behind the Kaplan test questions is very close to that of the GMAT test makers. The CD-ROM really simulates the real test. But don't get too carried away by the scores. My scores for the last two Kaplan full-length tests were in the mid-700s, which are much higher than my real score.

It's OK, but not as a Tutor,

This book is pretty good at telling you how the GMAT CAT is scored, administered, and the tests on CD ROM are pretty good. However, do not use this book to help you remember your High School education. In my opinion, it is not for tutoring purposes. You have to already know the formulas and proper English! This will ot teach you!
