5.0 out of 5 stars Great combination of practice and strategies
This book gives you three practice tests with good, clear explanations for each answer choice (instead of just telling you the correct answer) and strategies for approaching each section. Kaplan tells you how much time to spend on each type of question, how to prioritize the questions in each section, and how to avoid common mistakes. The CD-ROM is good for efficient...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not necessarily the best, July 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
I purchased this book (and paid extra for the CD) because I had heard Kaplan was "the best." Because it gets bogged down with verbose textbook-style instruction, however, I found it helpful, but not as practical as I had hoped. In addition, the practice exams on the CD, although timed, were frustrating because it was impossible to make handwritten scratchwork on the computer screen (possible during the real exam because it's on paper). I then bought Princeton Review's "Cracking the LSAT," which is more user-friendly and practical; it is more straightforward and is written with a sense of humor. I recommend that prospective buyers examine each book carefully before making a selection (as well as considering paying extra for the CD).

I've flipped through some of the other LSAT guides and this one is by far the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book + 2 Real LSATs Explained = Slam Dunk!, September 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
This book gives you a good plan if you can't afford one of those expensive LSAT courses. First you take a diagnostic test on the CD-ROM to see where you need work (big time saver!)and then you use the tutorials and practice lessons to hone your skills. The answer explanations for the test questions are the most valuable feature in this book. If you get a question wrong, you won't make that mistake again after you read the explanations in this book. That's the same reason why I recommend 2 REAL LSATS EXPLAINED. It's not enough to take a lot of practice tests. You've got to learn why an answer is wrong in order to avoid making the same mistake on the actual LSAT. In addition to explanations, this book gives you strategies to use for each section. I'm taking the test in October and I am READY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Preparation, March 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
This book really helps in preparing for the LSAT, helping the student to understand the underlying assumptions that go along with the questions. Plenty of practice questions also helps. A good choice for those looking to improve the LSAT score, especially for the first time you take the test.

5.0 out of 5 stars The LOGICAL reason to buy this book!, September 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
Other books include sample tests but the real value-and reason to select this book-is the Kaplan Advantage Stress Management System and the section on attacking and taking control of the test (and keeping it from taking even more control of you.) I would not have been able to master the logic sections without the help of this book. The practice exam answers and explanations are clear and concise.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Life-saver for pre-lawyers, September 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
I bought this book three weeks before I took the LSAT in a mild panic because I had done hardly any preparation at all. I covered almost the entire book before the test and can honestly say that I felt completely prepared. The practice questions and great explanations gave me a lot of confidence and good tips and strategies to arm me for test-day. The CD was helpful, but not necessary since the LSAT is not given on computer yet.

1.0 out of 5 stars book: absolute trash, April 9, 2002

This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
for people who really want to go to law school,... you REALLY don't want to waste your TIME and MONEY with this book. i need help on the logic reasoning section. i was hoping to get better explanations for each question. the book has absolutely NO proper format. i was spinning my wheels with this book. ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY. i believe they are an opportunist taking advantage of sincere people who really want to go to law school. if you're hoping to get at least a 150 on your lsat get the princeton review (at least they format each section properly and give better explanations). if you want to get >160 get the 10 real lsat book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overrated attempt to "Guarantee" improvements, February 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: KAPLAN LSAT 2000-2001 WITH CD-ROM (Paperback)
I sincerely question the claims that this book helped improve LSAT scores. These tests are insanely hard (far harder than real LSATs, take a preptest then take a Kaplan test and see if your score doesn't drop significantly.) I think the reason is that Kaplan wants you to see a low score and get freaked out and then buy more of their products. Either that or they give you a very hard test then when you take the easier real LSAT your score has gone up significantly. Magic? Nope. Improved readiness? Nope. Simply a question of making a system look better by skewing your results? Yes. For me Kaplan estimated me at a 156 on its tests, my estimated score on preptests (actual lsats)? 173. No thanks to Kaplan.

Some say here that it improved their ability to handle stress-maybe it does. But it does not and will not help you better understand the LSAT. Please take a preptest before buying this book and another one before worrying about your low scores, just to make sure you're not being duped.
