Good value, great starter digital camera,
This review is from: KB Gear JamCam 0.3MP Digital Camera, Silver (Electronics)
I purchased this camera as a gift for my husband at Christmas, and we've been really pleased with the pictures this little camera has taken. It's inexpensive and very simple, which is great if you don't have a lot of experience/technical knowledge of digital cameras in general. One problem: this camera won't work with Win2000 until you install drivers and some other fixes (and that's not mentioned anywhere on this site). It works fine with WinME, but as Win2000 isn't really intended for this, you'll run into the problem of incompatibility (even if using a USB hub). However, my husband sent the company some mail about this, and within a few hours, he had the fixes and everything works great. The website did have suggestions to remedy the problems, but that wasn't enough -- it did take an email, but the company was quick to respond. The reviewer from Paris, TX had an awful time with this, but I'm stunned by that review because we got such a quick response--and this was on Christmas Eve night! The camera takes pretty good photos, but the price will tell you that they're not high-quality, printable pictures. This camera is ideal if all you plan to do is send photos via email or publish them on a page. Software to edit your pictures is included with the camera, so you'll be able to correct red-eye and play with the images a bit. Unfortunately, this camera doesn't perform well in low light situations. It does take clear, sharp pictures in sunlight or in situations where there's direct lighting. I recommend getting the memory card so that you can take more pictures with the higher resolution. Another downside: no picture preview window, but hey, until recent years, we never got to take a sneak peek on a regular camera anyway. You can't miss what you never had... Besides, you're not wasting film; you can always just delete the shot on the PC if you don't like it! A BIG plus: it can take a beating. If you're worried that all digital cameras are fragile goods that need to be pampered, you need not worry about that with this one. My husband dropped his on a tile floor, and like a champ, it took a picture right after the fall without a problem. I felt instantly better that I didn't buy him an expensive, fragile one... (whatta klutz!) All in all, it's just the ticket if you want to try out digital photography before making a costly investment. I think kids would enjoy this camera because it looks cool, and let's face it, techno stuff is instantly attractive to a kid. A good way to start and worth the money!

Solid camera at a great price,

It's always great to find a product where the maker keeps the price down by omitting features rather than by cutting corners on quality.Sure, this camera isn't super-high-resolution, nor does it have many extra features. But what it does it does well. It's easy to use, and the photos are fine for most snapshot-type uses. It's also rugged - highly recommended for kids. The software loaded with no hassles and has a simple user interface. The camera hooks up to a PC easily, and I haven't had a single glitch uploading. I will recommend that you add the 16MB MultiMedia Card. Without it, the camera only holds 8 shots. With it, the capacity goes up to 69 - much more useful.

I shopped around for ages looking for the cheapest digital camera I could find (I just wanted one to throw in the glove box or whatever in case I want to snap something). The JamCam 3.0 came up pretty good in most review I read, bad in others. The specs read pretty good from a technical perspective but like any camera it's hard to tell without actually using it. Anyway I settled on a JamCam and to cut a long story short, it's not bad. It's probably better than any other camera in the price range (not that there are many) but don't expect great quality - this camera is acceptible for quick snaps to send by email or to put on websites etc. If you buy it with high expectations you'll be disappointed, otherwise it's worth a go! Also you'll definately want to get a MMC to put in it - 8 pictures ain't much.

I bought this as a beginner digital camera for my young daughter, thinking it would save on film and developing costs.Well, she was very excited to get the camera, took some pictures, and when I installed the software and tried to download the pictures to my PC--NOTHING!! Seems there is a driver issue. (I have a relatively new computer, WIN98, etc.) I emailed cust. support (for KBGear) and no response. I called them, and the problem was not resolved over the phone. I was left with the answer: download the driver update from our site. I did. Still couldn't get pics to download. I returned to camera to a local store, and found that several buyers have had the same problem. Many returns on this camera. I'm now in the market for an inexpensive digital camera for a child!!

Before the holidays, I shopped around for an "inexpensive" digital. I hated to spend big money on something that will be obsolete in a year or two. (I already have an entire shelf in my basement with computer equipment we no longer use) Amazon listed this as one of the 10 best cameras, so for [the price], what did I have to lose. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the image. (I am a comercial artist) Print it out on a good ink jet printer, on photo quality paper, and you get great results. Plus, I can use it on my Mac and my husbands PC. Installation on both platforms was super simple. You don't need any kind of real computer experience to be able to download from camera to computer. I plan to buy another for my in-laws. It's no Nikon, but I'd definatly recommend it to anyone wanting to get an easy to use digital.

I bought this camera, ... ... When I installed the software and tried to download a few pics, it didn't work. I suspected a driver problem. Since there was a real-looking phone number in the manual, I called. The number was disconnected. OK, that figured. It was suggested that I try another area code. I did (612). A machine answered with a menu. Another tech support dead-end, right? I hit the number for support, and was connected to a real person on one ring. No wait at all. A few minutes later the problem was solved. Unreal!! I've come to expect long waits, no response to phone or e-mail requests or discourteous treatment. It doesn't matter if it's a $2000 computer or $20,000 car. But for a product that didn't even cost ...? Unheard of. I've never received this high level of support from any company, on any product, ever. Nuffsaid. The camera works fine for my purposes. Easy to use, very good software, picture quality just fine for the resolution. Recommended.

I was initially a little disappointed, but further research led me to believe this is a great first digital camera to start with. I have a Sony Mavica, and constantly struggle with not being able to hold it up like a camera. It would be nice if it had a screen to view, but size, weight and price are also important. My dad wants a digital camera and I bought this one for him. With the addtional 16 meg memory I think it'll be a great addition to his travels, and he'll love being able to pick and choose the pictures he keeps.

Do not buy this camera. The software is terrible and the drivers don't install correctly in Windows 2000. After I finally got the thing installed, I took some pictures. It takes a long time to take one picture and you have to hold the camera still while you do it. Downloading the pictures from the camera to the PC via USB is very slow as well. The most disappointing thing about this camera is the picture quality. Quite honestly, the other problems were nothing because this camera is so inexpensive... but the picture quality is terrible. Even in the highest resolution it looks awful. Each pixel looks about 8 times bigger than it should be in the highest resolution. Worst digital camera ever.

Camera worked great-when it worked, which was for approximately 4 months. I called KBGear to see how I could get it fixed, and was told that they had none in the warehouse, they all go to major retailers. Because they had none and did not know when some would be produced, they would not fix, replace or otherwise try to compensate for their faulty product. I was told to keep trying back to see if they get any in, but if they don't I'm just out of luck. Their one year warranty is basically worthless. Just be warned if you get one, it's striclty purchased as-is.

Well, I've seen people say this and that about this camera. Anybody who said anything negative, get a life. This camera's perfect for anyone who has a life. It's not the ABSOLUTE BEST technology, but for the great great GREAT price, what did you expect? Somebody said that after 50 pictures, the battery was dead. Well, not with mine. My camera's taken 65-75 pictures and the battery still at full strength (on the monitor). The camera's very easy to learn, very user-friendly, and very portable. If you think that this isn't a great camera, you're asking for too much at the price that this costs, and you're obviously very hard-to-please. Maybe my battery's lasting so long because i keep the camera plugged into my computer when I'm not using it, I really don't know. I didn't read the manual, the camera's almost completely self-explanatory, that's how easy it is to use. Anyway, the point is, it gives great pictures, it allows you to do tons of things, and it's simple.
