2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
This MP3 player is the bottom of the line. 2 AA (not AAA like toys r us says) batteries last about one hour, and the maximum volume is about 1/4 the maximum volume on a normal cd player. In order to put more than two songs on it, you have to decrease the bitrate to 32kbps (which means the songs sound like they're coming from a bad AM radio). I'm returning mine to the...

At ..., (I paid more...sigh) it has it share of short comings. 16Mb memory forces the 32KB rate to extend 30min or more. A 32/64MB module would be a good investment for what you save on the player. Sound quality is adequate, however the volume level does not extend high enough for city street noise isolation. One sticking point is the user software, although quite functional, the JAMP3 uses the MusicMatch Jukebox interface. This forces the to jump through several hoops in order to complete song transfers to the player. In e-mail conversation with KB Gear they apologiezed for this but indicated that they have no intention of changing the "ADWARE" user interface. All in all I would give the JAMP3 a 9 out of 10 for value and a 5 out 10 for functionality. If you want to enter the MP3 player market on a budget BUY THIS PLAYER!

The bottom line is: If you're going to buy an MP3 player, don't get this one. ... The KBGear JAMP3 Player is a total waste of money, Don't buy it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Look elsewhere for an MP3 player, October 18, 2001

I bought a JaMP3 and it is a very poor product. First it has only 16 MB of memory which is not enough to store any appreciable amount of songs. So you have to buy an MMC card which is no big deal. Unfortunately, KB Gear's jamonline.com web page states SanDisk 16, 32, and 64 MB MMC memory cards work in the JaMP3. Well....they don't. I bought a 64 MB MMC card and the JaMP3 only formatted it to 16 MB. I called the tech support and they had heard of the problem, didn't know what to do to fix it, and said they had no intention of seeking a solution.

Finally, the JaMP3 takes TWO batteries. The battery life in the JaMP3 is VERY short. When I transfer MP3 files from the PC to the JaMP3 via USB, it takes forever. I'm loading 16 MB plus 16 MB in the MMC card (not 64 MB like it should) and it is so s.l.o.w. it is nearly painful. Anyway, it is draining battery life. So a set of batteries has to last through loading 32 MB of songs, then playing the songs. The batteries bearly last through playing the songs two time through.

1.0 out of 5 stars MUSICMATCH, March 13, 2004

Everythihng they say on here is true but I can handle the OK sound quality and volume, because I bout extra memory and everything but let me WARN YOU! Do NOT under any circumstances upgrade your MUSICMATCH software. The website says MUSICMATCH doesn't even support your JAMP3 player, and I've been listening to the same 11 songs for over 3 years. This unit was given to me as a gift, but it was $100 and I hate that my aunt spent that much money for a deficient product. :(

1.0 out of 5 stars ~HORRIBLE~!!!! Worst MP3 I've seen yet....., October 7, 2002

Lets not even get started people. In simple this is just an mp3 not meant for ANYONE over 7. It just has LOW quality sound and the volume is poor. Go with something a tiny bit more exspensive...trust me it may be more exspensive for you, but in time you will thank me.

For your own good, do not buy this! if i could have given it 0 stars i would have! It drains batteries very quickly, i could only put about 3 songs on it at "cd quality" (which it wasn't) and the songs got messed up and interchanged. I have a mac, so i couldn't upgrade it because "it currently does not support macs". it doesn't come with mac software, that u had to download from their site. i tried to download it many times, but it didn't work! the quality was horrible, i had to turn the earphones a certain way to hear anything at all. i desperately wanted an iPod, but couldn't really justify spending [amt] for it. I should have after all. This mp3 player...!

4.0 out of 5 stars good stuff, December 31, 2001

i must say that i was really discouraged when i read the reviews on the jamp3. saying that "it was the worst mp3 player ever". so i finally got a hold of my very own. i had never had a mp3 player and i was happy when i got it. a little scared because of all the bad reviews, but happy. so i loaded it up and started playing. the volume starts off on 50 but i guess the other people never saw the volume buttons on the side cause it went all the way up to 100 and it was loud. i mean i'm a musician and i deal with loud music every time i perform (so loud it makes the ear drums rattle) and even i say its loud. i have an aiwa xp model cd player and the jamp3 is just as loud if not louder.
now about the batteries. it does drain batteries. i have rechargeable batteries and they do get drained quickly. i don't know if it drains any faster than my cd player though. i think about the same. i bought some regular sony batteries just to check and i'm still using them. they have gone about 3 days now.
software is good and pretty easy to use. i don't think this mp3 player is for kids but definitely for teens and above. the only problem is it does ask you for a code key when you are installing which i couldn't find anywhere. they say its on the front of the cd but i don't see it. that doesn't mess up the install though and everything works pretty good. doesn't take very long to download either which is good.
the only thing i would have liked it to have is a power adapter plug. i don't know if other mp3 players have that, and they are probably not made for that. i mean what would be the point in doing that when you can just play a cd? the mp3 player is for when you are on the move and don't want to haul around cds, cassettes, 8 tracks, or even 4 tracks. can't forward through the song either. that's not bad because you have all your favorite songs in there anyway. can skip the song though so at least you can do that. memory is not too bad. if you listen at 32 kbps it sounds like an old cassette... so i don't recommend that you use that. i use about 64 kbps and it sounds so much cleaner. i got about 9 songs on my jamp3 on just 16mb of memory. i will be buying the mmc card soon though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to MP3s, November 15, 2001

I have always wanted an MP3 player and when I found this one at a great deal, I couldn't resist. It isn't overwhelming with features I would never use in the first place. You can jump from song to song, but no rewinding or forwarding within the music. The software installation got a bit messed up when I plugged in the USB at the same time. The software would not recognize the MP3 player (I later learned that I should have waited until the software install was complete). After reinstalling, however, it worked great. It holds a decent amount of music for walking/jogging needs and is very lightweight. It does drain the batteries quite quickly and I find the earplug earphones that came with it are quite uncomfortable. Also, the volume at its highest level is still not very loud, but this is a benefit when my 8-year son is using the player. I don't have to worry about him blasting his eardrums out. Overall, at a clearance price, it's a great deal and I'm very satisfied.
