These are designed for shaded pole fan motors (brushless).

I recently "upgraded" the squirrel cage fan on my pellet stove to much larger one... and "over did it" in the process. The heat exchanger couldn't handle all the air the larger fan was generating and as a result, the fan was cavitating and making this obnoxious high-pitched sonic howl... So contemplating several mechanical options to reduce fan output, I decided to try this and it worked great! I dialed back the RPMs about 30% and found a sweet spot with zero resonance and still plenty of air flow...

I mounted this in a plastic junction box with male/female pigtail cords in and out- So its "in line" and before the blower which plugs in. The box is stuck to the wall with velcro tape, behind the stove. Not exactly a fashion statement but simple and functional.

One nice feature being the rotary knob has an OFF detent that goes to 100% full... then lowers. Opposite a conventional dimmer switch where OFF to ON is max low then ramps upward. This provides max motor torque on start up. Additionally, there is a trim pot accessible through the front plate that can be used to limit MINIMUM Rpm.... I played with it but didn't set it not knowing the ideal RPM setting pre installation. No one will mess with this but me, anyway. I simply put a dot on the cover with a magic marker, where the best setting is located.

These RPM controllers are best used un the upper 50% of the motors speed range. At very low settings, you will lose torque, get motor hum noise and potential overheating. Much of this has to do with the type and size of motor, how its designed and rated full voltage RPM.

This is a speed control for a whole house fan. Easy to install and was a one for one replacement of what was already there. The cover plate was a little too large to sit next to the timer control so I had carefully cut away part of the plate so they could live side by side.

Worked well for my application. I needed something to control an electric vibrating motor (also ordered on amazon) so that we could vary the speed of the vibrations. It was quite simple to wire up and get working. We've been using it for several weeks now without any issues. I would buy this particular kind again if I needed another AC motor speed control.

Been in use for a couple of years now with no complaints. The faceplate does get hot (not to burn) especially when fan is running in slow speed (you electrical folks out there know the reason for this) because the heat sink for the solid state electronics is behind the aluminum plate.

This was a direct replacement for my old whole house fan control (same model number). It worked as expected and my fan functions again, what more can you ask for?

Item was bought for resale to replace an original Sears that had failed. The control worked perfectly. I would order again if needed.
