KDE Application Development provides a no-nonsense approach to writing applications using the KDE and Qt for Linux developers with limited or no GUI or desktop programming experience, as well as for GUI developers from other platforms who want to learn to create Linux applications. It covers such essentials as: understanding how the K Desktop Environment (KDE) applications can communicate with each other; using the essential widgets available in the KDE and Qt to build consistent applications; writing an application from its initial stage to its full-featured completion; effectively using the Window Manager's Session Management tool; and learning hwo to drag and drop between KDE applications.
About the Author
Uwe Thiem (uwe@kde.org) was born in Germany and grew up there. After he learnt the profession of a printer in worked as a printer for several years he learnt programming in self-study. He wrote the software for driverless vehicles and other machine steerings as well as system-close applications for UNIX. Today, he is co-owner of the IT company SysEx (http://www.SysEx.com.na) in Windhoek, Namibia, which is specialized in networking and X programming. Within KDE, his main task is to make sure KDE runs flawlessly on 64bit Linux/Alpha.
He lives with his wife and his two kids in Windhoek. Several times a year, all four of them climb into their 4x4, leave the city and go out in the bush to meet elephants, springbocks and lions.
