Background –
My natural preference is a warmer sound. If a company can't make the 'detail' show up without making the headphones screechy, I’d rather they just tone down treble all together.

I am starting off this review as such because it’s important to understand when a reviewer says they love the sound; I think the reader should know what type of sound the reviewer naturally prefers. Someone who prefers "bright" or treble-filled and detailed sound may consider the amount of base in these to be too much, for example. Yet, someone who prefers a warmer sound may find the sound in these closer to the proverbial Holy Grail.

Sound (5/5) –
The sound in these is close to perfect. The base is there, its big, accurate, and can really pound if you want it to. Listening to Dubstep on these is… rewarding to say the least. Listening to Pop with its current electronic influence and Base heavy rap / hip hop influence you will think sometimes you are listening to a different song or remix, but you’re not! Just let these headphones play for like 5 - 10 hours prior to picking them up, and you will see what I mean. Rock, Metal, and Alt Rock on these sounds like a whole new genre of music. Its sounds so very good most of the time, especially after burn in. At times I think I would like less treble or some sort of frequency cut off, maybe a bit more emphasis on mids? I’m not an audiophile, so I’m not sure how to achieve this.

In general though, the amount and quality of the base is really cool because it adds emotion to the music. The base does not flood the song, no way; you have plenty of other details.

On the other side of this, after burn in I’m so happy to report that the highs are not too bad.

These headphones have ended my search for my office setup. I had previously gone through three headphones in about a month and a half looking for the right ones, and I finally felt comfortable keeping these. Naturally, sound was my biggest criteria in my search. I'll start with the bass. You can really feel that dedicated bass driver, as the bass is very far extended. It really gives you a full picture. While the bass is definitely full, it's not bloated. I would almost say that these headphones are bass heavy, but after listening to them for a while, I have decided that my previous headphones simply did not present bass correctly.
The mids feel effortless. Listening to a cello piece, I felt like there was no headphone interface between me and the music; I was just listening to someone play. Again, I think this maybe due to the separation of duties between the drivers. The vocals feel uninhibited by the bass. It gives them a good airy quality. That being said, I don't think the mids are the focus of these headphones. I wouldn't say they are recessed, but they certainly aren't emphasized. Overall, the mids are quite well balanced with the rest of the spectrum.
Treble is equally well balanced. I found that my previous portable headphones, my er-4s's, would become fatiguing after a time due to their somewhat bright signature. I am glad to say that is not the case with the KEF's. I can listen to them for hours without the highs agitating me. Despite being a tad more laid back, it is still detailed. I have never felt like I am missing anything from the original recording. For me, those kinds of highs are the best. Not to bright, but not too laid back.
Soundstage is also good on the KEF's. They easily beat my er-4s's, and even my Sennheiser hd25's, which are an on ear variety of headphone.

The m200's are my favorite pair of buds so far. I have used every thing from Monster DNAs, Beats, Kilpsch s4's, and Sennheisers. The first thing i noticed about them was that they are fairly large for in-ear headphones however they are made from vey lightweight aluminum. The ear loop on them is not some flimsy piece of plastic. It is bendable rubber that you can adjust to fit securely around your ear. When put on correctly you forget you even have them on. The cable is about the same quality of other high end buds and while not flat it feels strong enough.

SOUND:
I suppose you can say I am a bass head. Before I knew much about good audio I thought the rumbling bass on Beat Studios was the best thing. However when I listen to music that is not bass heavy like Nessum Dorma I find that most headphones are rather plain. This is not the case with the M200's. They sound like how fresh blueberry muffins smell...delicious. The dual drivers make for an exceptional listening experience. When listening to Nessum Dorma I felt like Pavarotti was literally standing 3 feet away from me. I listened to "Samson and Delilah" performed by Shirley Manson and could clearly separate each instrument and her voice. The bass of the kick drum was tight and meaty. Typically I find that head phones have one or the other. They have punch yet lack the rumble. These guys meet in the middle and its fantastic. I listened to various soundtracks for movies and games and found they performed just as well. The Man of Steel soundtrack was a whole new experience with these. The song Terraforming sounded great. I gave sound electric music a shot too. "Blue" by Gemini starts with this incredibly deep bass. These headphones spewed them out as well a dragon spews fire. It was clean beautiful bass rumble.
