They advertise this as a microphone. What it really is is a microphone-shaped speaker. When plugged into the iPod, it amplifies the music - not the user's voice. My six-year-old enjoys playing with it, but it doesn't do what it says it does.

My little girl picked this out with money she got for her 6th birthday, and she was so excited to sing into a microphone with her favorite Mp3s. She ripped it out of the package in anticipation, and was so upset when she discovered that it's a speaker, not a microphone at all. Which would be fine, if there were ANYTHING on the packaging or description that states that it is a speaker. But it's not called the Barbie Speaker, it's called the Barbie Microphone. My little girl is getting her first lesson in misleading product marketing. She was so disappointed, especially since she spent her own money on it.

My 5 year old got this for her birthday and she loves it. However, the microphone doesn't really work.. it's more like a cheap speaker. AND the song "I'm a Barbie Girl" by Aqua is the song that's played. The original Aqua song has REALLY adult lyrics, not at ALL appropriate for kids to be emulating. Also the Mp3 option turns off every 2-3 minutes, so if you pick a song that goes longer or you want to do a few songs in a row, you have to keep resetting it. As much as my daughter loves this toy, I am planning to get it away from her asap and get her another one for Christmas that works better and is more age appropriate.

This microphone with a karoake machine is real entertainment for the adults when your kids & grandkids are doing the entertaining. Perfect gift.
