5.0 out of 5 stars Commercial Grade Tough
We bought one of these units for use in a busy public library - rewinding the hundreds of VHS tapes per week that are returned to us with out being rewound. Previously we were using the $7-$10 cheapo units sold in stores, and we would wear them out in a couple of months. This unit seems to be perfect for our needs. I ordered two of these items. One operated properly and the other one did nothing. You sent me a replacement. The replacement works, but the red indicator light does not function.

Feedback: The rewind speed is really slow, especially for units that are supposed to be professional models.

It is simple to use, quiet, fast, and seems to be holding up very well to the wear and tear we are putting on it. If you have a lot of VHS tapes to rewind, I highly recommend this commercial grade unit as a better alternative to the less expensive, less durable units out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth, Quiet and Efficient, August 1, 2005

So far so good. Rewound a dozen tapes the first day, and found it to be very smooth and quiet, with no evidence of uneven winding present on most of the cheaper ones I have owned in the past. 4 stars only because it is a "1-way" rewinder. Why can't Kinyo, or any other manufacturer for that matter, produce a heavy duty 2-way rewinder? This product looks exactly like the ones you see at the mom and pop video stores. It appears to be of "commercial grade" quality.

We have had many rewinders that do not last very long. This one is great and very quite. Great product.

1.0 out of 5 stars SLOW, February 6, 2007

I'm in the middle of a too-long mission to transfer an embarrassingly large video collection to dvd. Once transferred, the tapes go in the dumpster, as do my rickety old VCRs. So I'm no longer interested in preserving tapes or vcrs once I've completed this mission. All I want to do is save time. It's been years since I had a rewinder. I was tired of rewinders ruining my tapes, but they were always fast. I thought they were improved by now; surely a rewinder as expensive as this would be an improvement. Wrong. I've tried a dozen tapes in this rewinder, and it is as slow as a VCR. And the rewinder acts like it wants to yank the tape off the hub just like my old cheap rewinders did. But then I put the tapes in the VCR, and they seem to be OK. However, the ones getting the Kinyo treatment act up by clanking and kicking around before they start to play. I don't trust that; I'm afraid to put any more tapes in. Still, my main beef is that the Kinyo rewinder is as slow as molasses. If you're looking for speed, this is not what you need.

So far the Kinyo 1-Way VHS Rewinder has performed without any problems. It is very quiet and opens automatically when the rewind has been completed. The only fault I have with this product is that even though it's touted as "Heavy-Duty Commercial Use", I can't imagine a video store or a library, for example, being very happy with it's performance because it's incredibly slow. This machine takes almost twice as long to rewind a tape as does my VCR. However, for the price and the fact that I may only rewind 2-4 tapes a day, I believe it's a good value, saves wear and tear on my VCR and therefore the slow speed isn't really a big issue for me personally.

1.0 out of 5 stars You don't always get what you pay for!, February 9, 2007

I thought I'd "splurge" and spend the extra bucks to get a heavy duty machine. I've always bought the little $10 models, which last only 3-4 years at best. This Kinyo Commercial rewinder was broken right out of the box. Dead. Nada. What a disappointment. On the bright side, though, Amazon has the best return policy in the world. What a company!

This review is from: KINYO NK-2 Heavy-Duty Commercial Use 1-Way VHS Rewinder (Electronics)
I can't write that this is a particularly nice-looking item. I can write that it rewinds much faster than any other rewinder that I've owned, that it's almost silent and that I am glad I made the purchase. Since it's hidden in a cabinet, I can't find much fault in it's [lack of] beauty- but I sure do appreciate it's efficiency. You would, too.
