About the Author

Stephen Skinner is the founder and publisher of Feng Shui for Modern Living magazine, the world's best-selling magazine on feng shui, which is available in many countries and published simultaneously in both English and Chinese. He originally learned feng shui with practicing masters in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan. Skinner is also the author of The Living Earth Manual of Feng Shui, the first English-language book on feng shui published in the 20th century. Master Wu Hsien Sheng is one of the old style feng shui masters practicing mainly in Hong Kong, who inherited his profession from his father, and his father before him. Now retired and in his eighties, Master Wu remembers when the main concern of his early clients was for yin feng shui, and the lay of the land was more important than the colors of the curtains. Nowadays his clients are more likely to include businessmen or lawyers. He attributes his considerable vigor to Chinese ch'i concentrating exercises and the number of mountains he climbed when he was young.

More About the Author

Stephen Skinner wrote, with Francis King, the classic "Techniques of High Magic" in 1976. He followed that with "Oracle of Geomancy" and "Terrestrial Astrology: Divinatory Geomancy", which has become the standard work on Western divinatory geomancy. Highly illustrated books on "Nostradamus" and "Millennium Prophecies" followed. He also edited "Aleister Crowley's Magical Diaries" and "Astrology".

In the 1970s Stephen was responsible for stimulating interest in John Dee and Enochian magic by publishing through his imprint Askin Publishers the first reprint of Meric Casaubon's "True and Faithful Relation of What Passed for Many Yeers between Dr John Dee and some Spirits.." and Dr Donald Laycock's key reference book on the angelic language "The Complete Enochian Dictionary".

He is currently working with David Rankine to reproduce the best available source books of practical ceremonial magic, particularly from old never before printed manuscripts owned by practising magicians.

His latest book on magic, "The Complete Magician's Tables" is a book of correspondences, which with more than 800 tables, is the most complete tabular book of magical correspondences in print.

Stephen is also the author of eight books on feng shui, including the first English one in the 20th century.

He has written more than 27 books translated into 20 different languages. He lives in Johor Bahru, near Singapore, where he researches both feng shui and classical magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The whole feng shui, simple, so you can really use it, November 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Feng-Shui (Hardcover)
This highly illustrated book, leads you 2 pages at a time through Traditional Form & Compass feng shui. Each 'doing page' gives you a place to enter your own results so that you can refer back to them everytime you want to check you own feng shui. No BHS feng shui however. Very clear, very simple to intermediate, written by the guy who introduced feng shui to the non-Chinese world back in the 1970's

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Fun, and Practical Guide to Using Feng Shui1, July 30, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: KISS Guide to Feng Shui (Keep It Simple Series) (Paperback)
The Keep it Simple Series distinguishes itself from other series like the Idiot and Dummie Guides by its extensive use of color and photographs. However, the superior content far outweighs the appealing cosmetics of the book's layout and design. In a nutsell, Stephen Skinner knows what he's talking about. In fact, he's a world renowned expert in the field as well as the author of one of my favorite feng shui books, The Living Earth Manual of Feng Shui. In his KISS book, Stephen provides an excellent overview of what feng shui is and how it can help you maximize your health, wealth, and relationships. It's well-organized and easy to read. Impliment his practical advice and you'll witness first hand feng shui's power. A thousand kow tows Stephen for elevating this Chinese practice! Nice work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harmony and Happiness, June 11, 2002
This review is from: KISS Guide to Feng Shui (Keep It Simple Series) (Paperback)
According to this book, my desk is in the wrong place. Although I have no choice, I've noticed I'm more edgy with the door behind me and when someone enters my office, I feel that if I was sitting with my back towards the wall, I would feel more comfortable and in control of my environment. My only problem is having to look at the computer wires, which would annoy me more.

So, I think there is something to be said for furniture placement, when practical.

Being of the thought process that there is something to be learned from everything, you can try to take what you need from this book to help encourage an environment you will feel comfortable in.

The Chapters Include:

What is Feng Shui? - Wind Water, a connection to natural elements. "Flow"
is also an important element. It is not a religion or magic.
Who Does Feng Shui and Why?
A Look at Feng Shui's History
Gods, Graves, and Feng Shui Masters
Ch'i and Alignments
The Building Blocks of Feng Shui
Chinese Cosmology
The Trigrams and the Lo Shu
Feng Shui Inside Your Home
Living Rooms, Dining Rooms and Bedrooms
Bathrooms, Kitchens and Corridors
Business Feng Shui and Color
The Four Celestial Animals
Feng Shui Outside Your Home
Water Dragon Feng Shui
The Feng Shui Garden
The Eight Mansion Formula
Feng Shui Remedies
Symbolic Feng Shui
The East Life/West Life Formula
Time and the Calendar
Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches
Compass School Feng Shui Tools

Some of the ideas I incorporated into my own home without even knowing they were Feng Shui concepts was the use of mirrors. It does definitely create a feeling of energy in a room that would otherwise feel closed in.

If you are very, very serious about Feng Shui or extremely curious, this book has more than you will ever want to know.
