4.0 out of 5 stars Just keep telling yourself it's the inside that counts, September 2, 2004

It's the Bible, and the only English version of the Bible that's TRUE to some of the oldest, trust translations in our tongue. The facsimile is absolutely gorgeous, and it feels like you're taking a step back in time every time you open the covers. However, the actual outside of the Bible is what gets to me. The front cover is stamped with HUGE 48-point font HOLY BIBLE 1611 EDITION etcetera... This doesn't really match with the historical feel of what's inside. But overall this is my new favorite Bible and something I'm sure people at my church will love to see (since finding Bibles with the Apocrypha is quite difficult but they are the standard in the Episcopal Church).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sacred Feeling Restored, March 17, 2006
This review is from: The KJV Bible 1611 Edition: Genuine Leather, Black (Leather Bound)
I recieved my 1611 edition today (hardcover) I must say when I opened the pages a feeling of sacredness returned to me that I havent felt for quite some time. I guess over time I've become somewhat insensitive to what a wonderful gift The Bible truely is to mankind. I bought the 1611 edition to have and study a more complete KJV Bible which included the apocrypha but what I got was much more than that. A reminder of the all the faith, the work, and zeal (Not to mention countless lives of the martyred)that has been put into writing, preserving, and carefully translating this truely sacred book.
I've barely been able to put it down. The slightly disorienting spelling of the old english words are less bothersome than I imagined. I find myself reading more slowly and carefully over the texts because of this, yet I found this to be more of a blessing than a bother. Again, I am reminded that this is a book, more than any other, should be read more carefully and closely.
An undisputed champion of beautiful and poetic Literature. An uncompromising and remarkable peice of art and history. An unequalled and unsurpassed influence of all mankind spanning thousands of years. A well-spring of testimony of God's love toward his people. What other book can say this? In this day and age where there are so many "new" and revised and re-revised editions this book (1611 edition) is not only refreshing but perhaps even neccesary.
Once it was in my hands this edition of the King James absolutely reaffirmed my faith in the Bible itself. Taking me back to times when men spent their entire lives, translating or hand copying the Bible so that someone, somewhere could hold in their hands the Word of God. So in conclusion, if you are a history buff, a casual reader, a Bible Scholar, A lost soul searching for answers, or perhaps just a curious Child of God. The Holy Bible has what you need. And the 1611 edition is a faithful and refreshing recreation of the King James Holy Bible. You won't regret buying this.

The 1611 edition King James Bible I ordered and received was excellent. It was everything and more the seller advertised. My husband was beside himself when he opened this for this birthday. Everybody at his party wants one.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a Facsimile, December 10, 2010
This review is from: The KJV Bible 1611 Edition: Genuine Leather, Black (Leather Bound)
I bought this at CBD several years ago, circa 2003, off their pallet for $20.00, in their warehouse at Peabody, Massachusetts. A bargain if I ever saw one. Overall, it is mainly true to the 1611 text, from I can tell from pictures of the pages of the text. As you can see here: [...]

However, just after buying the book, a friend of mine and I questioned if it really was a facsimile. The reason was that the text lacked the long 's' that looks like an 'f'. In some of the blocked artwork you can see it, but not in the text itself. We were very suspicious and felt, if it was so, the disappointment at that. And, if you click on the link, you will see that the font is different as well.

I can see why the publishers would do that. The book does give somewhat the feel of what it was like to read from a 1611 text, but they probably thought (maybe correctly) that the different spelling would throw people off enough without having to get through the strange font and long 's'.

I disagree, if you are going to go that far, you might as well go all the way. I wanted to anyway.

With all that disappointment being said (and believe me, it was great disappointment), I still like the book for how much of the other stuff it did get right, and was true to the original. Also, the quality was such that it is comfortable to hold and read, I was thinking of making it my main study Bible just for that fact alone. I bought several copies to give away.
