Featuring the world-class narration of Alexander Scourby from the King James version of the Bible. Inspiring, majestic, and powerful, this word-for-word narration of the Bible is unsurpassed. Perfect for those who wish to learn the Bible and increase their faith, but find reading the Bible difficult. A "Must Have" for any library!

I have mixed feelings about this product. I am very glad to have Scourby's excellent reading, and the price was, I think, quite good considering the size of the package. And I would venture to say it's as good a carrying case as you'll find. However...Every disk is filled to the absolute max they could fit on it, to the point where some of them even end mid-chapter of a book, and pick up with the next verse on another CD. Few of the disks actually begin a new book, which is a bit of nuisance if, like me, at a given time you want to listen to a specific book. The *real* problem with packing the disks so all-fired full is that some CD players have problems reading the last bit, usually just the last minute or two. I would blame that on my playing device, except that I have at least three different device types made by two different manufacturers that have exhibited this behavior. Such a device cannot track the outermost tracks, and tends to stumble and sputter until you finally put it out of its misery--and lose the last little bit of the narrative. The only answer I have found is to burn the disks in this package to CD-R's (which gives me the opportunity to reorganize them into books as well). This is not without it's own problems though, since I have at least one player (a DVD player) I'd like to play them on, that can't read CD-R's at all. But that's a story for another time... -Dw

The Voice of Biblical Films,

Scourby's was the most in-demand voice for movie-industry narration in epic films of the 50's and 60's. His signature voice raised any film beyond its surroundings. For the KJV, you hear it as it was intended to be spoken, and you find yourself saying, "So that's how that verse is supposed to go. I get it now."Here the Bible is given its spoken elegance beyond what the usual American voice can render.

The Alexander Scourby KJV Bible Narration is fantastic!,

I have nearly a 50 mile commute to work each day, resulting in approximately two hours daily drive-time. I also have two young children, which, after work and spending time with the kids, leaves little time to read my Bible.A friend suggested a Bible on CD, so I purchased the Scourby KJV narrative and began listening to it while driving. I was skeptical at first, because I typically understand things better when I read them myself, but Scourby does a fantastic job reading the scriptures and his inflection and intonation makes the passages come to life. His narrative is extremely easy both to follow and to understand. It's great! I'm now able to "read" my Bible daily and it even makes the drive seem shorter. I recommend these CD's to anyone who spends a considerable amount of time in a vehicle or who maybe just can't find the time in their day to read their Bible. What better way to start your day than with the Word of God on your way to work!

This review is from: KJV Complete Bible-Nylon Zip (60 CD + 1 DVD) (Audio CD)
I have put all 60 CD's in my player and am able to listen all day and night to the bible spoken by Scourby. My heart jumps with joy at the Word--there is nothing better. Scourby's voice is just right, so that you do not tire of hearing it.Cowgirl reader

I have always enjoyed Alexander Scourby's classic tape series of the Bible, but this CD collection puts things up to date. With the CD version, I can put whole books of the Bible on my ipod and go! I have to give this four stars, however, because there are a few times when faint cassette noises can be heard - the CDs were made from the tapes. Still, this is a fantastic product and my all-time favorite audio of the Bible.

KJV Complete Bible - Alexander Scourby, Narrator,

I love it! Mr. Scourby's voice is excellent for this venue. He reads with feeling, placing passion or quiet reverence appropriately. I even listen to the Word of God at night and sometimes go to sleep while it is playing. The quality of the recording is never annoying.

This is a very good narration of the King James Version. I also have James Earl Jones reads the New Testament and "The Word of Promise New Testament NKJV". Jones' one is good too, but he often falls short of a "word-for-word" reading of the KJV text. "Word of Promise" is a disappointment. I expected a lot with the all star cast of voices. The final product resulted in an often cheezy dramatization, and poor reading for many of the voices. Jim Caviezel's reading of Jesus' parts is particularly sub-par.Scourby has a very pleasant voice, very good intonation, and I've not noticed any departures from the King James text. Very happy with this set! |
