An Good Value,

This review is from: KLH PSW8100-8 Down-Firing Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
When I first saw the price on this subwoofer I was a bitskeptical. I did not think that such a cheap subwoofer would be ableto deliver deep, clean, high quality bass (especially not down to 30hz). But I decided that I would buy it as part of my Dolby Digital home theater system. When I recieved it and set it up I was very pleased with what I got for such a low price. While it is by no means the best subwoofer out there, it delivers very good bass. Sound stays realitivly clean unless the volume is high, although it does often sound boomy. It does have deep bass, but not the deepest, it produces almost nothing below 50 hz, so consider the frequency range to be 150 - about 50 hz. If you are setting up a home theater system or upgrading a pair of weak speakers, you should seriously consider this subwoofer, especially if you do not want to spend a lot of money doing so.

Best performance for this price,

As soon as I fired up the KLH PSW8100-8 sub, I was impressed. For the small price and small size, it pumps out loads of bass! At moderate volumes the bass is clean and loud. When played at very high volumes the "tightness" or transient response was degraded, however. Also the sub could produce almost no material under 50 Hz, which is still better than any other sub in the same price range that can produce the shear output of this one. For cheap, loud, clean, and fairly deep bass, this is an excelent solution.

I was skeptical at first because of the ridiculously low price, but it does exactly what is claimed. It goes very deep and is very clean. It does make a thump when it comes on, so when playing music lacking significant bass for more than 5 minutes at a stretch, it is best to defeat the auto-off feature, so that it will not automatically shut off and then come back on during the music. A trivail drawback once you figure out how to get around it. Several people advised me that a subwoofer so cheap could not possibly be any good. Absolutely not so. Unless you want to fill a stadium with thundering bass, this little puppy is ample.

KLH PSW8-100 Subwoofer,

This review is from: KLH PSW8100-8 Down-Firing Powered Subwoofer (Electronics)
Rarely do I purchase any product that so delights me that I feel compelled to write the manufacturer about it. The KLH PSW8-100 is one such product. In an effort not to disparage the products of three other well known companies whose subwoofers I also tried, all of which were considerably more expensive, I can only say that for the money, I could not be happier with this product. The minor problem noted by others regarding the auto-detect switch is true but it is easily eliminated, as suggested, by setting the switch to the "ON" position. It is also true that the base does not appear to kick in until your receiver's volume is set to a moderate level; however, I paired this subwoofer with 4 of KLH's extremely affordable 970A's and found it blends beautifully with them. The sound they deliver together is surprisingly warm and rich across the entire sound spectrum for both movies and music and I can not imagine being any more satisfied if I'd paid ten times as much for my system. The volume and crossover controls, which are quite sensitive, the relatively small footprint of the unit, its speaker and input connections, and its solid overall build quality make the PSW8-100 a tremendous value and a pleasure to recommend to others.

I purchased the KLH PSW8100-8 a month or so ago. I based my selection purely on price, KLH branding and the customer reviews on Amazon.com. I have not been disappointed in the least. The bass is excellent and really adds alot to my home theater setup. I made the mistake of purchasing a home theater system with a non-powered sub-woofer. This one really booms. I could tell the difference as soon as I set it up (With ease I might add). Don't be put off by the down firing feature. It is a positive as far as I am concerned.

I purchesed the KLH subwoofer for Christmas and I don't know how I ever did without it. When you hear the Bass that comes from the small size that fits anywhere you will be amazed. And the price is right for anyone. Don't be fooled by the price and size of the sub unit. Watching DVD movies like Godzilla make you think that the monster is right outside and tring to get in. This is a must have for anyone on a tight budget.

The sub is OK, rounds out a basic system, low price for basic performance. However, the one I purchased stopped working after about a month of use. KLH asked me to send the power unit into them for repair. I have not heard one word from them since. Phone calls and e-mails have not been returned. It is like I never existed. So be wary, sometimes buying cheap cost you in the end.

When I first saw this sub, I wasn't sure how good it would be for such a cheap price. After shoping around for a while and realizing that I could not find any other sub for close to the same price, I decided to break down and purchase it. Let me tell you, for the price I paid, I could not be more happy. This is worth every penny (and more).

I upgraded to a surround sound receiver (mainly because I needed it to switch between s-video inputs), and decided to add some cheap surround speakers including the KLH center channel and subwoofer. I've been very happy with the results. I'm not an audiophile, but for my fairly simple needs, it makes a big difference to have the subwoofer, and I've never heard any signs of distortion or anything like that. I like the feature where it auto-senses when to turn on, so I don't have to worry about turning on/off another component. It just works.

I hooked up my subwoofer last night and watched the movie "Ronin" on DVD. There were a couple of scenes where cars get blown up. Not only did this subwoofer rattle and shake my apartment, but it also blasted a jetstream of air that almost knocked me off my couch. Very happy with the product so far.
