I wish those small pieces could be larger and more standard sized pieces.

The big red tub is very misleading and does not contain the same pieces or building book that it used to.
Johnathon
K'Nex is great for kids who love to be creative and building structures and things.

Beware - although there is no mention of this fact anywhere on the packaging(or on Amazon), at least 3/4 of the "521 Piece Value(?) Tub" consists of Micro K'NEX - So tiny they can be seen, but not picked up. Save your money - go to the store and find something properly labeled.

Product is only half standard sized pieces. The other half are smaller and are only compatible with the couple of special adapters that are included. Product description says nothing about there being two sizes of incompatible pieces. Buyer beware!

We have been enjoying both sizes of K'nex regardless of the description misunderstanding, and might consider buying k'nex again. They had excellent customer service when we contacted them directly.

Contains two small bags of mutually incompatible parts. (One bag has "standard" sized pieces and one bag has the same pieces but scaled down and not compatible with the other bag).

The container probably has 4x the necessary capacity to hold the number of parts that ship with it. So I use the container to hold all the other k'nex we already have (in addition to what was shipped).

The 521 is a little misleading. It should say something like 200 standard sized k'nex and 321 incompatible smaller k'nex. (and the smaller ones are probably more dangerous for young kids).

I purchased "K'NEX Classics 30 Model Building Set" at the same time and it's has a lot more "standard" pieces.

Hopefully this review is useful!

Bought these for my kids for Christmas because we have always wanted to try them and they were on sale for $15 for this 521 count set. They enjoy tinkering around with them but, the huge plastic bin is overkill for such small items. The bin comes with a quart size bag of K'Nex inside and when you open the bag and pour them into the bin.....the pieces are SO small that the 521 pieces don't even cover up the bottom of the bin. I'm assuming there are 521 pieces (as I have not sat and counted them) but they sure don't look like 521 to me. I will probably put the pieces in a different container or quart zip-lock bag and use the bin for something else or throw it away because it is just simply too much bin for these pieces. Overall, I'm glad I only paid $15 for this set and still think that was a bit much for the amount of K'Nex included. 521 pieces sounds like a lot but really, it's not with these things.

Was surprised that most of this set were the mini pieces since no where on the tub does it mention that. The boy was VERY diappointed since he wanted to use this to combine with his other sets. I sent an email to K'Nex with the link to the bad reviews here (and the 400 piece set with the same problem and a lot more bad reviews) and they basically said "this is how we do thing now, you get what you get and tough luck if we didnt tell you want you are getting". So BEWARE, any set you buy might be the mini's now and you will not know until after the kid opens in. I had one sad kid since he wanted to build "something really big". I stay you should just stick with legos, at least there you know what you are getting

I was disappointed that Knex gave me a false impression what the container actually contain. It mostly tiny Knex and only one long grey rod. This is not what I remember of K'nex, but looking at the website, they don't appear pursue the grand structure with normal size k'nex pieces anymore. Also, alot of the pieces were legos like bricks.

I had never seen a set of knex until I bought one .I read mixed reviews and saw the images online of the constructed structures and was impressed, so i decided to get one .Bad decision. This set of toys has too many small parts and one can never have it for long without losing those small parts. I do understand this is for ages 7+ but even kids that age can still lose the tiny parts. My kids did not like this set.The parts do not engage easily and are not really interchangeable.I had bought a set of Zoobs at the same time and those were worth every dollar i paid for them. Bottom line is this toy is not for long term building and dismantling .If you want to buiid a one time iconic piece for display then this can work for you. You have been advised!

Another great gift! OUr grandson is a lego wiz, so this was a natural alternative. At 6 years old, he followed the instructions easily by himself and built a functioning motor cycle and many other mechanical parts that all had function. Kept him quite busy for a great length of time.
