Book Description

KNIGHT’S BIG EASY—an Action/Adventure Thriller Novel

Killing is never easy for E Z Knight. But when he's doing away with some really despicable bastards, it’s not all that difficult.

In Knight's Big Easy: Voodoo, hoodoo and a girl named Poodoo make this year’s Mardi Gras the most fun but also the most dangerous party of all for E Z Knight!

Knight goes to New Orleans to find Parole Officer Tamara White Cloud’s AWOL USMC son, and finds out L/Cpl Billy White Cloud isn’t the only one who’s gone missing.

He uncovers the largest human trafficking organization since the US slave emancipation. Led by a Voodoo King named Papa Legba, the slave ring preys not only on young runaways and homeless children, but also kidnaps them from their own homes, and then sells them into prostitution and sweat-shop labor.

Knight works with a retired jazz musician named Black Zack who restores old horns in a shop called Jazzy Brass. They team up with FBI Special Agent Pooh Dooley to find Billy and to stop the slave-traders. However, Knight’s old musician sidekick might be more than he appears. Black Zack claims the hay in the back of his truck is for feeding his cousin's goats. But when the pickup the old horn tooter’s driving is run off the road and catches fire, smoke from the alfalfa bales in the back gives Knight a high unlike any he’s had before.

Time is running out. A cargo ship loaded with over 500 children is away to the deepest waters in the Gulf. With the threat of being exposed, Papa Legba has ordered the ship sunk as soon as it reaches Sigsbee Deep. But Knight’s not that worried about dealing with the two-dozen armed men on the slave ship, or the nighttime HALO jump he must make to carry out the rescue—it’s the Voodoo Queen named Marie who won’t rest until she’s turned E Z Knight into a zombie that’s making his skin crawl.

A prequel to Knight's Late Train and Knight’s Ransom, Knight's Big Easy is the first novel in ”The E Z Knight Reports”; a sexy, humorous and irreverent series as well as a somewhat realistic and poignant look at the darker side of life, crime and the human condition. With a modern-day, ramped up "The Rockford Files"/"Magnum PI" feel, a Jack Bauer-capable hero and a "24" pace, this series consists of stand-alone, page-thrumming novels.

"The E Z Knight Reports" has a special section on the author's website and blog (gordonkessler.com) with info on each of the books, E Z Knight, Jazzy Brass and the "Knight Girls". You'll also find information about the author and his other novels and works.

If you enjoy best-selling action/adventure thriller authors like Don Winslow and Clive Cussler, as well as some of the best thrillers in eBooks by indie authors like John Locke and JA Konrath, you'll love Knight’s Big Easy!

NY Times bestselling authors agree:

“…a wild ride…kick-ass…will have you thrumming through the pages well into the night…handled with stunning effect."—James Rollins, author of the thrillers Map of Bones, Black Order, The Doomsday Key, The Devil Colony, Skeleton Key and many more (about Brainstorm).

“…exciting and fast-paced as a thrill ride on a dive bomber, a maelstrom of action, violence, murder and mayhem, way too much fun to put down once you're hooked...frighteningly believable. Kessler is a former US Marine parachutist, recon scout, and 'Super Squad' team leader—and he really knows his stuff."—Douglas Preston, author of the thrillers Relic, The Codex, Book of the Dead, and many more (about Brainstorm).

About the Author

Gordon Kessler is a thriller novelist, living in the Kansas City metro area with his golden retriever, Jazmin (Jazzy Brass). He's taught novel writing for several community colleges, worked over twenty years for the BNSF Railway, and is a former US Marine Recon Scout, Super Squad team leader, parachutist and troop handler. He enjoys SCUBA, sailing, snow skiing and sharing time with his kids and grandkids. His thriller novels Jezebel, Dead Reckoning, and Brainstorm are all in both paper and eBook. His latest men's action/adventure thriller, Knight's Ransom, was released early 2012. Four or five more in "The E Z Knight Reports" series are scheduled for release yet this year. These novels are about half the size of his big thrillers and are fast, fun reads. Gordon's also published two short story eBooks: a humorous piece called "Toothpick for Two" and a nostalgic romance called "Jack Knight". Please check them out. Along with his fiction, he's published a book for writers, Novel Writing Made Simple; a great primer for beginners and an excellent refresher for the experienced wordsmith. He's a founder and currently president of the Kansas Writers Association, a sixteen-year-old organization of some very special people. Last year, he started a group to help support independent authors called the Indie Writers Alliance--another group of great people. A second book on writing will be available soon. EBook Writing Made Simple will focus on the actual writing of eBook novels and how they can be crafted more effectively for the eBook novel reader rather than as a work written for the traditional publishing industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving this Author June 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the fourth book by Kessler that I've had the pleasure of reading. I've always loved the fast pacing he creates in his novels, but "Big Easy" takes the prize.

EZ Knight wakes to find himself handcuffed to a strange bed, in a strange room, with a strange bedfellow - and one hot woman with a gun strapped to her thigh. But he doesn't remember who she is or how he got there.

Remembering alongside EZ is the biggest adventure you'll ever have with a man. Meet endearing Black Zack, Poodoo, a heroic Marine named Billy White Cloud, and the whole gang waiting for him back at Smokey's Marina to see how it all started. Get ready for enormous belly laughs, children trapped by evil people for their own evil purposes that will make you madder than...well, it will just make you spit nails, and shed some tears for the souls lost.

You've hit another one out of the ballpark, Mr. Kessler!

4.0 out of 5 stars Adult Adventure with a Side of Double Entendre April 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
"Knight's Big Easy" by Gordon Kessler is an adult adventure novel that, despite its brevity, does not lack action or humor. Narrated in the first person by former Marine Force Recon Ethan (his first name is later given as Ezekiel, one of only a few typos evident in the Kindle edition) Zachariah Knight, who is aptly called E Z, the story is presented as an account to be given to his parole officer, Tamara White Cloud, and it revolves around an energetic plot from page one. E Z is a vigilante Indiana Jones who has no squabbles over killing "for the right reason," especially given his colorful and tragic past. He now wants to quietly retire and spend his time sailing in southern California, but his plans soon change.

Trouble seems to follow E Z. During the initial meeting with Tamara, the parole officer and a detective are fired upon, unleashing a cascade of events which entangle E Z in a nefarious scheme that leads him to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras festivities. Tamara's son Billy, a Marine Lance Corporal, is AWOL and his life is in danger, prompting his mother to grant E Z permission to travel to the Big Easy in an effort to rescue him and uncover whatever conspiracy is underway.

The wild antics of Mardi Gras cannot compare to the situation in which E Z soon finds himself, however. Amidst human trafficking, voodoo, hoodoo, and corrupt law enforcement personnel, E Z lives up to his paladin namesake as he targets one villain after another, remarking that "They didn't call me `The Mule' in the Marines for just the one reason!" With the help of a cast of colorful characters, including Black Zack and Poodoo, E Z attempts to bring justice to the swamplands of Louisiana, but when he comes under the power of a voodoo spell, nothing is certain, and the line between reality and hallucination becomes blurred.

"Knight's Big Easy" contains frequent adult language and content which some readers may find offensive. There is plenty of violence, some of which is briefly graphic, and the text is heavily interwoven with humorous double entendres, beginning with the play on the title character's name. The story is an easy and quick read, with comical titles given to each of the short chapters, and the first-person narration by E Z lends a realistic, matter-of-fact tone to the novella. That being said, this story is best suited for a mature audience who appreciates adult humor and fast-paced drama. Although I would normally not read a story of this type, I was surprised to find it interesting and funny; I did not think that it was excessively vulgar, and although it did have crude moments, Kessler proficiently maintained an amusing and rollicking tone throughout the story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great April 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This was the first of the E Z Knight books I have had the pleasure to experience. And, it was a real treat. The characters were rich and well-developed and the story arc was smooth and fast-paced. The inclusion of many local details really made the story more enjoyable. Even though the book was a shorter book, I really enjoyed the journey. This was an excellent introduction to E Z Knight, and the author. I will be exploring the other E Z Knight books, and other works by Gordon Kessler. I received a complimentary copy of this book, and was given the opportunity to submit a review, and in the process, have found a new character and author to add to my short-list of "must-read-other-works".
