For E Z Knight, when it rains, it pours—and it seldom tastes anything like water.
“A sexy, humorous and irreverent thriller series...” — “An action adventure thriller novel like no other!"
E Z has a $10,000,000 contract on his head and a whole boatload of hit men after his ass. Even worse, a young Russian beauty has just handed him a photo of his six-year-old goddaughter wearing a vest wired with enough plastic explosives to bring down the Golden Gate Bridge.
Nowadays, all E Z wants is to be left alone. He seeks an uncomplicated and safe life, living with his golden retriever, Jazzy Brass, on a sailboat in Southern California. But his past won’t cooperate. When, only two minutes before his neighbor’s sailboat blows up in front of him, he’s handed a picture of his best friend’s kidnapped daughter strapped with Semtex, he knows there’ll be no peace today. He’s stared down the Grim Reaper more times than he can remember, but death hasn’t come to harvest someone this close to him since his wife was murdered six years ago.
E Z’s former best friend, Jason Ryder, is up for an Oscar, and the man’s newly divorced wife, actress Stella Hutchins, is E Z’s very hot ex-girlfriend. With their little girl in jeopardy, the Hollywood couple must put on a facade of normalcy on the biggest night of their lives—that could also be their last.
A walk down the Academy Awards’ red carpet is a new experience for an old Leatherneck, but former US Force Recon Marine E Z Knight isn’t shy. He’d do anything to get his goddaughter back safely—be it by bullet or by bedroom—and he must have a little of both to get to the bottom of this one.
Teaming up with a spicy little Russian who carries a Mac 10, an old woman who flips him the bird every morning, and a couple of his old comrades-in-arms, E Z’s determined to track down little Sophie Ryder’s abductors, rescue her, get her home unharmed, and do away with some very nasty bastards, all in short order. But in the hours to come, a deadly old nemesis returns, and a new team of very lethal assassins strikes at his heart.
E Z never liked killing, but he’s good at it, and the next forty-eight hours are bound to be murder.
Knight's Ransom is the third novel in ”The E Z Knight Reports”; a sexy, humorous and irreverent thriller series as well as a somewhat realistic and poignant look at the darker side of life, crime and the human condition. With a modern-day, ramped up "The Rockford Files"/"Magnum PI" feel, a Jack Bauer-capable hero and a "24" pace, this series consists of page-thrumming, stand-alone novels. Please check out the first novel, Knight's Big Easy, and the second of the series, Knight's Late Train, as well.
These are great beach reads and commuter reads—books you'll enjoy on the plane, train or in the car, during business travel as well as on vacation, while in the hotel, the airport or just waiting in line!
If you enjoy best-selling action/adventure thriller authors like Don Winslow and Clive Cussler, as well as some of the best thrillers in eBooks by indie authors like John Locke and JA Konrath, you'll love Knight's Ransom.
"The E Z Knight Reports" has a special section on the author's website and blog (gordonkessler.com) with info on each of the books, E Z Knight, Jazzy Brass and the "Knight Girls". You'll also find information about the author and his other novels and works.
NY Times bestselling authors agree (about Kessler's Brainstorm):
“…a wild ride…kick-ass…will have you thrumming through the pages well into the night…handled with stunning effect."—James Rollins, author of the thriller The Doomsday Key and many more.
“…exciting and fast-paced as a thrill ride on a dive bomber, a maelstrom of action, violence, murder and mayhem, way too much fun to put down once you're hooked...frighteningly believable. Kessler really knows his stuff."—Douglas Preston, author of the thriller The Codex and many more.
Gordon A Kessler is a thriller novelist living in the Kansas City metro area with his golden retriever, Jazmin (Jazzy Brass). He's taught novel writing for several community colleges, worked over twenty years for the BNSF Railway, and is a former US Marine Recon Scout, Super Squad team leader, parachutist, marksmanship coach and troop handler. He enjoyes SCUBA, sailing, snow skiing and being with his kids and grandkids. He currently has three other thriller novels in both paper and eBook: Jezebel, Dead Reckoning and Brainstorm. His latest thriller and its subsequent sequels and prequels are fast, fun reads. Kessler's also published two short story eBooks: a humorous piece called "Toothpick for Two" and a nostalgic romance called "Jack Knight". Along with his fiction, he's published a book for writers, Novel Writing Made Simple. It's a great primer for beginners and an excellent refresher for the experienced wordsmith. He's a founder and current president of the Kansas Writers Association, a sixteen-year-old organization of some very special people. Last year, he started a group to help support independent authors called the Indie Writers Alliance--another group of great people.
EZ Knight reminds me of a retired Dirk Pitt from a Clive Cussler novel, that is if he ever actually retired. Loved 'Ol Corky and her candlesticks! Lots of good laugh out loud moments and some gritty then sad ones as well. Being a burn-up-the-road kinda car girl myself, I really enjoyed the Mustang and got quite upset when...well, I guess I'll leave that for the reader to discover. Only criticism - I'd like to see Jazzy more in the next one. I hated it that something happened to her!
I received this book this book free from LibraryThing.com - .talk about a great book, I loved it. It was hard to put it down once I started reading. The suspense, characters and plot were so well written. I have never read any of Gordon Kessler's books before this one but I definitely want to read more now. Many books do not keep my attention but this one kept me on the edge of my seat.
Knight's Ransom is my first look into the world of Gordon Kessler's creativity. My only regret is that I started the EZ Knight series at Kessler's most recent effort.
That will be remedied.
Impressive technology like Tom Clancy, glib and downright funny lines in the middle of serious problems like Nelson DeMille, a memorable entourage with intriguing, memorable characters, Beautiful, Booger, Rabbit, Smokey, etc., brought back Don Winslow's Sunny Day, Hang Twelve, Dave the Love God and High Tide.
It makes for a great read which is definitely not a rehash of kidnapping stories.
It's really different, when a part of the demands for ransom is EZ Knight's life.
I particularly enjoyed the irreverence so typical of today's successful ePub novelists in weaving a tale that keeps your Kindle open and running for hours on end. As a fellow action/thriller novelist, I enjoy surprise endings.
From laugh-out-loud to misty-eyed, I ran the gamut of emotions with Knight's Ransom. The guy sitting next to me on the flight probably thought I was nuts! It's gritty and dark, but warm and exciting at the same time. The characters are unusual and fun and the action is nearly nonstop. Jazzy Brass, the dog, was a fully developed character in the novel that I especially loved. It isn't often I can't put a book down, but I pretty much read it straight through. There was a surprise in every scene. You won't regret reading this one. Looking forward to the next E Z Knight novel.
Knight's Ransom is an action-packed, entertaining book that you won't be able to put down. You'll be pulling for E Z Knight to win all of the battles along his journey of danger and suspense from life on his boat to the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards. I can't wait to read more about E Z's adventures.
Plenty of plot twists and entertaining, dimensional characters. I know the inspiration for Jazzy Brass is realistic, but EZ? Still, if the chips were down, I'd want Jazzy and EZ on my side, not against me.
Knight's Ransom starts out with a bang (a blast, actually)and leads the reader through 48 hours of action, danger, betrayal and international intrigue. E Z Knight is a friend you'd like to have but never want to cross-especially if you threaten to bring harm to those he loves. His checkered past has left him with enemies, foreign and domestic, who'd like to see him dead and are hell-bent on making him that way. E Z has a wry sense of humor that shrouds the emotional wounds he's gathered from years of doing the dirty work sometimes asked of those who serve their country. Set in California, Knight's Ransom gives a taste of life on the "left coast", from living a seemingly mundane existence on a sail boat, to the picturesque roads in the Hollywood Hills, to the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards. Don't let the idyllic setting lull you into a feeling that everything is right. It's not. But E Z Knight intends on making it right. Go along with him while he DOES make things right. But don't get in his way.

Gordon's also published two short story eBooks: a humorous piece called "Toothpick for Two" and a nostalgic romance called "Jack Knight". Please check them out.
