More About the Author

While an English major at college, I wrote a column which was published weekly. I have been writing ever since. The old West and Los Angeles in the forties are eras which lend themselves to tales of romance, courage, and fast paced adventure. I particularly enjoy writing stories about the mail order brides who fearlessly took a chance and traveled West, hoping to find love and a better future.

Many of the locales that I write about are places that I have either traveled through or actually lived in. I try to make my works richly accurate. My desire is to provide you with an entertaining and fun read. When I'm not writing, I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children.

The author of this book does what every good writer should do. He takes us into the interior life of the protagonist. The reader is transported into Johnny Knowles' world and learns to understand the struggles that Johnny experiences on his journey to develop into the "good man" his mother had begged him to become. Along the way, the reader is treated to adventure and drama that makes for exciting reading.

I recommend this book, even for those who do not normally read westerns. This novel has action, good character development, and sharp dialogue. If you enjoy those elements of good writing, you will enjoy this book.

Very well written old- time Western. Nicely developed hero. Good story. Lots of gunplay and other action. Especially gritty in places.

This book was exciting and enjoyable to read. It was well written and the encounters in the bad areas of the old west were interesting. Fun read.

Each character comes alive as this novel moves from boyhood to manhood. Knowles never loses sight of his main objective. The author has done his research well. Every geographical area is well depicted, even distinct flowers. The author paints a vivid picture of scenes such as a cattle stampede or an ambush with his words. Very enjoyable! I am looking forward to meeting Johnny Knowles again!

This was a well written account of some of the lesser written about parts of the old west. It makes you wonder how anyone survived parts of New Orleans. Great read.

This book has everything you want in a western: tough hero, mean bad guys, lots of shooting. In this case, they just don't come to life. The romantic interest was especially poorly done. Johnny has never thought about settling down, but a love interest appears and he's ready to propose literally before their first conversation. Once things are settled she disappears for the rest of the book. If you want to read a western and there's nothing else available, this'll do, but there are better choices available.

I'm not a fan of western novels, Zane Gray, etc. But I got a chance to get this book for my kindle for free, and for some reason it caught my eye. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. Simple, straightforward and to the point, like the main character. But a good plot and interesting details. Well worth your time.
