How I wish these toys had been around when I was a kid! My 10-year-old son spent several after-school hours putting this item together. It motivated him to research the REAL international space station, and to educate the family, his friends, his teachers and classmates, and anyone who would stay still long enough, about the details of its purpose and construction.

Regarding durability: He took his construction to his science teacher's classroom, where it was handled by hundreds of kids every day for months. He brought it home -- perfectly intact -- and it now sits as a piece of scientific/kinetic art in our living room (along with several other brilliant constructions).

As a parent, and as a grown-up kid who loves to play and think, I love k'nex.

I bought this for my 9 year old son for Christmas. He was very excited to get started. There are nearly 90 steps to complete the International Space Station. He finished it in two days, (I hoped it would take longer) and plays with it daily. I would highly recommend this product. It will provide hours and hours of fun for your 9 to 12 year old.

We bought this for our 5-year old for a 3-week school break! He was able to follow all the steps with help from mom and dad. It was wonderful to see the sense of accomplishment he had when he finished. He brought it into school for 'show n tell' after vacation. He had 30 kindergarteners handling it, and it came back okay! It was a great project for an extended out-of-school time for young ones! He can't wait to get some more K'nex sets!

The pictures were vital to figuring out how to put the 900 pieces together. We still found a handful of parts left over. The motor worked just fine. All the parts moved, including the panels and the antennae. I would suggest that you put the solar panel decals on the plastic panels before you assemble the whole mast.

Big issue: We cannot find out how to mount the station on the cardboard stand. We simply cannot get it to fit and there is no instruction or diagram that shows how.

This project was a stress reliever. Not Only did I get to put something together by following the simple instruciton but now I have a really neat space station in my office!
