K'Nex Kid - Railroad Pals Building Set

Spent the week with my 3 year old grandson and introduced him to Kid K'nex Railroad Pals. Much to my surprise, he loved it. I only say this as he is rarely occupied for long periods of time with any one toy. I sat with him building some of the characters shown on the box. I had him gather the pieces for the character by color and then allowed him to push the pieces into place as I guided his hands or held the pieces in position. He would then add his own pieces to the constructed model. He quickly got the hang of connecting the pieces and occupied himself with constructing characters from his own imagination. Great fun toy to play with your child or for them to play with alone.

We have a regular kid knex set without the legos pieces, but over the years my boys have lost many of the pieces. They were happy to get a new kid knex set, it comes with ideas but also lets them just do their own thing and build.

I bought this for my great nephew, and his mother told me he will love it. He is 3 and loves trains but lately has been really enjoying building things so this is best of both worlds. He called and left me a message tonight thanking me for the present and that he loves me :-) What more could a great aunt ask for?

No one in my household was interested in playing with this toy so it was tossed in the Goodwill or recycle bin.

I bought my son's first Kid K'Nex set when he was almost 3. At first he was very frustrated as he did not have the hand strength to interlock the pieces. However, with time he was able to do this. We did make several sets from their instruction book but the joy, for him, was creating his own masterpieces. Having me sit with him the first few times to show and help him create was key. My son is now 7 1/2 and although he uses these much less, he still does use them! Especially in the summer since they float. We have a pool and he'll sit on the pool steps and build away, keeping cool and getting his creative fix. I love everything about Kid K'Nex. I never worried about choking or magnets. There are no tiny little pieces to lose, the possibilities are endless and they've lasted for 5 YEARS! I recommend buying more than one "special" set (cars, animals, etc.)for their parts and adding that to a big box of regular pieces.

My grandson just turned three in March. He just loves this K'Nex set. I also purchased an additional set for him. Although he can not build the items pictured, he can put the pieces together and create his own objects. I usually have him point to what critter "we" are going to build and then we make it together. He gets very excited to see the finished project.

My 5 year old loves trains. He also has enjoyed playing with his brother's K'Nex so this was the perfect choice. He has made some of the given models for his train set, but really enjoys making his own creations!
