I love the Kohler rainshower showerhead. I've tried many different shower heads, always searching for the right one. Recently I stayed in a Marriott where this particular shower head had been installed in the bathroom, and I fell in love with it. There's a nice combination of pressure and coverage, just what I was looking for. I ordered one, and in my home the pressure wasn't quite what I remembered from the hotel. I figured it must be a combination of the water pressure in my home and the flow restrictor causing it to feel different. So here's how to take the restrictor out to make it better: Take out the screen and black gasket out from the stem. You'll see a green plastic device and a small black rubber ring; they appear to be integrated into the base of the showerhead and can't be removed. So what I did is use a common nail (I had some galvanized 10D 3 inch nails in the garage) and, using a hammer, gently punched a hole right into the center of the green plastic piece. Then, using a pair of tweezers, I was able to completely remove all of the green plastic pieces. Be careful that the pieces don't enter into the showerhead itself. Put the screen back in place (this prevents particles in your water from entering and clogging the showerhead) and screw the showerhead back on. Presto! Instant pressure increase. I have my own well, so I'm not concerned about the increase in flow rate and extra utilization of water. I take quick showers anyway.

I am very pleased with this shower head with the flow restrictor removed. I should mention that I have very good city water pressure. I find the "bell" shape very attractive and compatible with a variety of decors (ours is modern). Removing the restrictor is fairly simple if you have a hand drill and a reasonable assortment of small twist drill bits, After prying out the filter screen with a small screwdriver (and saving it to reinsert later), I drilled a small hole in the center of the blue plastic flow restrictor and then began enlarging the hole with successively larger drill bits. My original plan was to drill out enough of the center that the remaining "rim" could be easily pried out with a screwdriver, but on the fourth drill out the remainder of the restrictor came out stuck around the drill bit. The small chips of plastic created by the drilling were easily shaken out of the shower head. I then replaced the conical filter screen and attached the shower head to the chrome pipe stub from which I had removed the old head after putting teflon tape on the threads of the pipe stub,

Because this shower head is quite large, it puts out a lot of water with very good, comfortable pressure, I love it -- a good "old fashioned" shower, quick, efficient and satisfying. But the large shower head with its many holes may leave two groups of people unhappy -- those with low water pressure which may not be able to supply enough pressure through the many holes even with the flow restrictor removed, and those who like a shower head with enough pressure to produce a mild "stinging" effect. Unless you have very high water pressure this shower head simply passes the water through too many holes to produce the vigorous sting that some people like.

Very nice.

I wanted a rain shower head that wasn't ridiculously expensive, didn't dribble weakly, and, well, just felt great.

Nice combination of pressure, coverage, and gentle rain-shower feel. Very well-made and nicely priced.

Single function is fine with me---massagers and multiple shower settings go unused in my house.

I also own an "Aussie-Style" rain shower head that comes on a 10" extension arm. We like that one, too. Floods you with gentle water, and you can stand directly under it. This one has a little more "oomph", but is still gentle.

The pattern & nozzle style (tips are soft rubber for easy cleaning)on the Kohler Bancroft and Fairfax head look the same---just different cosmetically. 5.5" head w/ 72 nozzles that are well-spaced to cover your body.

This is the head I was looking for---a nice, wide gentle shower at a decent price.

To put this review in context, I purchased this to replace a temporary $5 shower head that I picked up from Lowes. It was a temporary solution, so I searched amazon for a good shower head with both style and function, to provide a nice luxurious shower experience. I decided to purchase this Kohler shower head based on pretty solid amazon reviews. I always read both positive and negative reviews, and this shower head really seemed like a winner. So I was quite surprised to discover that this $55 shower head was actually a major step down from the $5 ugly one I've been using. The experience of this shower head can best be described as standing under a garden watering can, that's about to run out of water. The pressure is very weak and the streams are hair thin. I figured the flow reducer inside might be partly to blame, so I proceeded to take it out (which took 15 minutes in a tool shop, because unlike with most shower heads, the reducer in this one is really difficult to remove. It finally came out in pieces.) Unfortunately, it still did not improve the water flow or pressure by any meaningful amount. It appears the internal design of this shower head just does not permit a lot of water to go through it. I installed the other $5 shower head back, and wow, what a difference it made. All I can say is I just don't get why this was rated so highly. It's a below average shower that fails in direct comparison to basic ones you can pick up in any store. Having removed the flow reducer, I can no longer return this, and I wouldn't feel right installing this even in a guest bathroom. So it'll sit collecting dust, or might go straight to the trash can. If you want a good shower head, I'd advise to keep looking.
