The Kohler sink that fits this wood grate was expensive. I want to preserve its' good looks. So I decided it was worth it to protect the bottom of the sink. In hind sight I would only buy one and save $$$. I use the grates as a shelf as well as a grate. I was not aware upon purchase the shelf would work so well. It is nice to have two but not necessary. Again, Amazon comes through on an item I am looking for. Amazon will be my first source from now on when I'm trying to find something. The grate is as beauitful as the sink, it fits perfect both ways grate or shelf. As a shelf, the grate is turned around width wise and sits on the top ledge of the sink. Works great!
