Often imitated but never equalled, Kongs are made in the USA from a thick, flexible rubber that's non-toxic, non-splintering, and puncture-resistant enough to stand up to even the strongest jaws. This red Tuffy is appropriate for typical medium- to large-sized dogs, from basset hounds on up to some standard poodles; size up (and/or switch to a super-durable black Kong) for aggressive chewers. Regularly inspect your Kong for cracks or missing chunks, and replace worn or damaged toys to avoid a choking hazard. Satisfaction is guaranteed; if either you or your dog aren't happy with your purchase, return within 30 days for a full refund. --Mary Park

This review is from: KONG Classic Kong Dog Toy, Large, Red (Misc.)
I was hesitant to buy a Kong because it doesn't look like it would be much fun for a dog. I saw it at the pet store and it smelled strongly of rubber. I bought it anyway because of the glowing reviews here and other websites. I bought the Large Red Kong for my 55lb Lab/Shepherd mix who is an average chewer. At first she seemed confused with what to do with it. I filled it with kibble and peanut butter and she chased it around the room licking it. I was afraid I had wasted my money. Then I put some quarter sized treats in it which fit perfectly in the opening. This forced her to chew the Kong to get the treats out. Now she loves her Kong and plays with it all the time without food. She just loves the way it bounces and will happily gnaw on it even when I wash it clean. The Kong manufacturers website has a size match function where you can enter your dogs breed and it will suggest the appropriate sized Kong. Many of these negative reviews would not have had any problems if they had taken the time to read the product description. The manufacturers suggest sizing up and/or getting the black Kong if your dog is a known aggressive chewer. But don't size up too much. There was a reviewer who bought a Large Black Kong for his 10lb chihuahua. The chihuahua was able to chew up and swallow the Kong probably because he could get his mouth inside the Kong at the edges. The dog was peeling the Kong apart from the opening. If he had bought the Small Kong, like the manufacturer recommended, he wouldn't have to pay for emergency surgery when his chihuahua swallowed the Kong. Kongs come in sizes from Small to XX-Large and in Red, Blue, Black, Dental and Puppy varieties.

Keeps a German Shepherd Happy,

This review is from: KONG Classic Kong Dog Toy, Large, Red (Misc.)
My German shepherd loves this toy. As both my husband and I work we have to leave her alone for 8 hours a day. I give her a kong filled with treats each morning and often when I get home that she is still working on getting the stuff out. Any toy that keeps this chewing machine occupied for that long is worth its weight in gold!

Best Dog Toy Ever!,

My Boston Terrier LOVES this toy. It is fun to use as a fetch toy and has an unpredictable bounce. My dog will stand on the couch, throw the kong himself, and runs after it when I am too busy to throw it for him. For a special treat, I put cheerios or dog food in the toy with a little peanut butter and he is occupied for a good 30 minutes trying to get every piece out. When he is in a chewing mood he will gnaw at this thing for a long time. He has never tried to chew on any furniture because he loves this toy so much. We have had this toy for over a year, and it does have some little pieces missing. The manufacturer says you should take the toy away in that case- but I don't think it is necessary. Small pieces will come right out the other end with no trouble!
Excellent toy! 2115|RQ8ATKOIS2ZIY;2115|R3D0O5BALRWHRW;2115|R1VF1SJ6NH3C70;
