Disappointed,

I bought an XTreme Kong long ago & it is the only dog toy that has withstood the powerful jaws of my dog - an XTreme chewer! I decided to purchase a few of the other XTreme products manufactured by Kong, hoping they would be as long-lasting. This product, the "XTreme Goodie Bone" was a big disappointment as it was chewed up in a matter of minutes by my dog. I would definitely NOT recommend this "Goodie Bone" to any pet owner that has an aggressive chewer.

My Dog's Favorite Toy,
By Ferris Bueller (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: KONG Extreme Goodie Bone Dog Toy, Medium, Black (Misc.)
My dog is not big on toys. She's extremely food-motivated, so Kong and Squirrel Dude have been her favorites--up to now. The bone shape is perfect for her to carry around and hold on with her paws while she's chewing. The goodie openings are smaller than I expected. I've found the Eukanuba Healthy Extra treats for puppies are a perfect fit. You can fit one in each opening for a challenge, or fit two in each opening so a little sticks out on each end. She will actually hold the bone in her mouth and toss it up in the air, in the hopes that a biscuit will break and fall out. The Goodie Bone keeps her occupied for a long time--hooray!

Only Kong Toys Last,

With a German Shepherd/Lab mix, toys usually don't make it more than 10 minutes before they are destroyed. The only toys that have consistently lasted (some for almost 6 months now) are Kong toys. This is the newest to his collection of Kong toys, and he treasures it like a real bone, and he can naw on it all he wants, and little to no damage happens. This, along with all other Kong products (besides the frizbee) have been wonderful. They even let you put treats in them, but my dog likes them either way. They aren't quiet indestructible, but pretty darn close. Buying one every few months is a lot better than buying one every few minutes.

Happy Bone.,

This bone supplies my dog with lots of enjoyment and work. I have a very smart working breed dog that needs lots of challenges in his daily routine. This Kong bone does just that. I add peanut butter and a bone treat into each end of the Kong bone and place it in the freezer overnight. The next morning right before I leave for work Mr. Dog gets his bone and is so busy he barely realizes I am walking out the door.I plan to buy another one for my second dog. They both want the bone and fight over it. They prefer it to the regular Kong.

Perfect for Power Chewers,

A little background is in order: Our two dogs are 18lbs and 50lbs. Both of them are absolute power chewers. They inhale bite size treats without even chewing. Nylabones don't stand a chance. Rawhides are practically swallowed whole. Plush toys are ripped apart before your eyes. One of them actually ate an entire pair of gym shorts. These dogs are chewing machines, what can I say. They do their work so fast that nothing keeps them occupied for more than 3-5 minutes! However, as much as they have decimated any toy we have thrown at them, their Kongs have survived for months without showing a single sign of the abuse they've endured. What's more, not only are these toys super-durable, they are the dogs' favourite toys- hands down! For these bone-shaped Kongs, there is a hole all the way through each end -denoted by the little jagged edges you see in the picture. The hole itself is sort of star-shaped, which is why the side view looks like a serrated, "jagged" edge. The edges are designed to hold a treat inside. Have no fear, though, the edges are tough- the dogs haven't been able to chew them up. We've had the best luck using flat, stick-like rawhides with the Kong. We break them into a bundle of pieces slightly longer than the hole, then stuff them in tightly. Inside the Kong bone, the treats last about 20-30 minutes while by themselves they lasted only seconds. Best of all, after the treats have finally been exhausted, the dogs continue to gnaw on them, as though searching for one more tasty morsel. This keeps them happy for another 10 or 15 minutes. I cannot stress enough how tough these Kongs are. If you don't like the bone shape, try the Kong Extreme Large Dog Toy, Black with a little peanut butter inside. (For even longer lasting fun, throw the Kongs in the freezer after you've stuffed in the peanut butter. It's like a Puppy Popsicle!) At around $10 these toys are a steal. I would have gladly paid $20 or $30 on account of the fact that they are so durable. If you own a power chewer, try a Kong!

High Hopes,

Toys usually only last a matter of minutes with my 9 m.o. lab mix, and unfortunately this was no different. Literally one minute after I handed it to him, he had already eaten one of the ends off. :( We've had much better luck with our squirrel dude, so far it's the only treat dispensing toy that he hasn't completely destroyed.

Left out some important details!,

I kept hearing good reviews about this from other dog owners. Imagine my surprise when my lab had already torn it up 5 minutes after she got it. Only then did I go back and read the package and see that it's a Medium size meant for dogs 15-35 lbs. That probably should have been noted on the website, and I probably should have looked a little closer before giving it to her. I'm disappointed because I feel the listing is misleading and needs to include the sizing info. The large dental kong is holding up well though.

Love it!,
By Elizabeth "Liz" (Tampa, FL) - See all my reviews Here's what I have: Dog 1: A Jaws-of-Steel Chewer - Lab/Pit Mix (6 years) Dog 2: A Heavy Chewer that typically only likes plush (and every other household object) - Chocolate Lab Puppy (9 months) Dog 3: A Heavy Chewer that's picky - German Shepherd (4 years) My results are - I didn't even bother giving this to Dog 1, because I know only the Regular Kong Extreme will survive her. Dog 2 wouldn't touch it at first, but REALLY took to it later on. She has not been able to put a dent into it. She actually liked it. It's the first plastic/rubber/non-plush/non-expensive-household-item that she likes. She's constantly carrying it around. Dog 3 LOVES this toy. He's picky and wont touch the other Kongs, but he will sit and chew on this for hours... and hours... and hours. I got him interested the first time with a treat in it, and now he can't get enough of it. I have to be careful with him cause he even carries it outside, I've had to go toy hunting on multiple occassions. This is one of my favorite toys so far, and the only one in one piece still!

openings can be chewed up,

I was unhappy to see the openings chewed up and the bits consumed by my corgi. So much for the extreme kong bone. The beehive is lasting but this bone had to be tossed way too soon for the cost.We will stick with West Paw Hurkey which shows no wear.

My dog's favorite toy -- and it lasts longer than anything else!,

My very agressive chewer, a 70+ pound black lab, loves this bone, whether it has treats in the holes on the ends or not. She also loves playing fetch with it. It took her three years to destroy her first Kong Extreme Bone, and she moped around for days after I had to chuck it so she wouldn't swallow the pieces that were coming off after three years. I was disappointed that I could no longer find them at the pet supply store. I was elated to learn that Amazon.com still has them. Now, Lady had her "old friend" back, and she's happy again.
