I was looking for something my power chewer that would last more than a few minutes. My dog is a female pitbull mix and only about 50lbs, so I purchased the pink one.

Pros: She hasn't even managed to put a scratch in it. She can play tug with our other dog and still be far enough away that they aren't nose to nose.

Con: The only downside to this toy is that the pink one is considerably inappropriate looking. I didn't notice when I first bought it, but my husband and several visitors made lurid comments when they saw it on the floor. As my home office is a public one, and I often leave the connecting doors open, I have to move it out of sight each day.

I suggest you buy any color except the pink one to avoid uncomfortable moments when family comes to visit.

Update...I have now had this for a year. Approximately 3 months ago, it went from one large piece into two. Now I just have one small 6" piece left, one of the ends. Regardless of how inappropriate this looks, I'm definitely buying the brat another one. I thought I'd get a different color, but the humor of it was so much fun, I'm sure I'll get another pink one.

When she did finally get it apart, after many many months of angry attacks on it, it did come apart in chunks. Thankfully, she loves to spit the chunks out all over the place and not eat them. I still recommend that you never allow your pets to play unattended with any toy, regardless of how tough they are.

We read the review on the Kong Safestix and were concerned that our dogs might chew them into pieces and ingest the sharp remains--a very serious issue. However, I also saw a glowing review on the Original Safestix and know that it is recommended by Leerburg. I checked further and discovered that the two products are exactly the same; the two companies collaborated and now offer new sizes and colors. I ordered one of each size of the Kong Safestix and so far am very pleased with them. We do NOT use them as chew toys; the dogs never have them, or most other toys, unsupervised. Toys are for interaction and training with us. Both dogs love chasing them, bringing one back to get another, tugging, etc. So far the plastic isn't even scratched by teeth. Our adult dog is a chewer so it's a pretty good test, but the foster Malinois puppy will prove the point when she gets her full set of adult teeth in a couple of months. Mals have a mouth full of carpet knives, and if our Safestix stands up to her at that point they will have fully proven themselves to me. Still...supervised play only. That's what the manufacturer clearly recommends and I plan to adhere to that rule.

UPDATE: We have had trouble getting the foster puppy to bring back toys to be thrown again or to "trade" one toy for a similar/identical one. These are skills we are asked by the military foster coordinators to teach the puppies to prepare them for military training when they come back at 7 months of age. The good news is that Hharpy WILL bring one of these Safestix to us either to play tug or trade for another one. In addition, this morning, for the first time, she returned her Kong to me after chasing after it so that I could throw it for her again.

My 70 lb Airedale chews through everything but it's been weeks and he hasn't destroyed this! He likes running around with it, playing fetch, and even tug of war with it. Great all around toy.

Its thick and looked tough...I thought Kong products were supposed to be tough- 13 minutes and my 50 lb boxer had this in pieces. Having more of the same results with other kong products as well. Seem to be getting flimsier over the years. very disappointed

My dogs are HUGE fans of this toy. It is a great alternative to rope toys - which we can not have because my two dummies like to shred and eat them - and we are not fans of blockage surgeries! The phallic shape is amusing to most people that come over. My husband refers to it as the "Green Dong" so often that the dogs will pick it from their basket when asked "Where is the dong?".

This toy is pretty amazing. It's HUGE, and my dog looks awfully silly carrying around his "blue dong" (as we call it). He loves this thing. He rolls on it, tugs on it, smacks his brother with it, and sleeps on top of it. So far it's held up really well. I can see where it might snap in the middle one day but I don't think it will ruin it as a toy. I would totally recommend it. I will probably buy another one.

This is an amazingly durable toy for strong chewers! I have two 70 pound labs that I have spent years trying to find a toy that they can't chew to pieces as I watch good money go down the drain within minutes of giving it to them (dog toys aren't cheap, as you well know). And they do love their toys! I read all of the reviews and decided to give it a try, since for a dog toy it was really reasonably priced. I bought the medium stick thinking it was just the right size to enjoy their tug-o-war games...if it lasted. Well, they loved it from the start and that was 2 months ago. There still isn't a mark on it. It's also been left outside in the weather on occasion which hasn't seemed to hurt the durability at all. The only draw back to this size is that my dogs love to greet us with a toy in their mouth, and since it is 20" long, it can be a little uncomfortable when one of them whacks us on the legs in their excitement! Also, it's a little large for throwing in the house and they love to "fetch". So now I'm placing an order for two of the smaller ones so that they will each have their own for indoors. As for the reviews that mention the strange look of it...they are right, the toy does get a lot of laughs and wisecracks from company, so I'm glad they sent me a green one!
