The user interface on this beast is stellar. Easiest to use and most interactive. Nice sounds, features, flexibility.

However, I have both an EMX-1 and ESX-1 and both relatively quickly developed data-knob jitter. Try to turn it up or down and it'll bounce the other direction intermittently. From some of the forums I find this is not uncommon. It's extremely frustrating and annoying. Korg will fix but they just replace the knob with another which will develop the same problem again. This is a serious flaw because it makes it unreliable for live performance. I do love this box but you'll have to hook up an external MIDI device to substitute for the data knob if you want to depend on it live. If it wasn't for that I'd give it a solid 5...

I love the drum parts in this music production sampling. I can create various type of beats with this machine. If only it has more keyboard sounds.

This unit is really only for the people "in the know" in regards to the Korg Electribe series. And most people come to be "in the know" by watching youtube videos of the Korg Electribe MX and SX. I myself have made wonderful music with the EMX alone (see my song "Sunrise" on youtube) and now I decided to add this ESX so I can start playing with samples. I also bought the Kaosillator Pro at the same time, and both arrived at the same time, along with the MIDI patch cables and my XLR cables and new condenser mic with phantom power, but then my EMX power adapter broke! Figures! At least the power adapter that came with this ESX is exactly the same so I can connect it to the EMX when I need to. But I can't wait to connect the EMX+ESX+Kaosillator Pro all together at the same time, along with the mic.

Only downside to this ESX is the bright pink color, but I found a website that actually lets you create your own custom labels for a wide variety of synths and musical instruments like this. And they had the ESX and EMX templates, along with all the correct knob labels so you can still see what everything is. I choose a simple black label with white text that has a blue glow around the text. But you can also upload your own pics to make a beautiful custom lablel. High quality 3M material that's removable, but the price is $40 per label so it's steep, but well worth it in my opinion. The blue EMX goes nicely with my BLACK ESX and I'll be the only one on Youtube who doesn't have a bright pink ESX.

This ESX sampler has sounds that aren't the same as the EMX in any way, which is good I guess, but I was so used to the awesome sounds the EMX creates, so it was hard for me to like the ESX sounds.
