You get three regular sized, three small sized, and three needle files in common shapes. (Ex, the three regular sized files are round, half round, and flat.) I liked that with this set you get nine files and nine handles. (Some sets give you fewer handles than files.) Also, the handles are reasonably comfortable. As with other KR tools I have, these appear to be geared toward the value conscious homeowner; they provide decent quality at a very reasonable price.

Nice set of files for the money. I bought them to add to my gunsmithing tool set. I cant see any issues with them. And at less than two bucks a file you cant go wrong.

This product was shipped quickly and recieved with no problems. This file set has performed well enough. I've used them for sharpening tools and other tasks and have had no problems with them.

I am so accustomed to Craftsman quality tools that I hold a standard pretty high when it comes to buying tools. I decided to side-step my normal Craftsman purchase and go straight for this set because I wanted something for a project and I wanted something fast and economical. There was no problem with receipt of this set and I never have complaints with Prime delivery from Amazon. My only gripe would be in the quality of he file edges. I'm no expert, but I KNOW i have used better, stronger files before (especially the ones on the larger end of the set). They were ok and I believe I got what I paid for. A somewhat usable, mediocre set of files in a nice carrying case. I needed files of sorts to add to my tool collection. I may have been happier with Craftsman tools but decided for my use, these would probably fit the need.
So far, they have been a bit lackluster in performance but I am not giving up on them. It doesn't mean that I wouldn't recommend them to others, but I would say that if you have the money and you really need a file set (or a certain file) go for quality versus quantity. Yes, these do have nice ergonomic handles and yes, the little carrying case is cute and nice. But if you are like me you have a tool chest that these will probably end up in anyway. And I am a simple hobbyist who owns a home and who needs a tool of some type every now and then to get a job done. Would I buy these again? Probably not. I'd go for the name I trust and probably pay a premium price for the size file I think I needed for the job at the time versus getting a cheaper version of a bunch of files. In tools, I think quality counts more than quantity. I went for the quantity here believing I was getting a super deal. Not bad, just mediocre.

Take a look at the picture. The files are housed in a huge gray plastic box, TWO inches deep, that weighs a good pound. That yellow/clear plastic cover is SCREWED on with four phillips screws (notice the four dots in the corners.) It's absurd to think that you would carry a few files around in a carrying case, especially when that case is useless, because the thin plastic cover is SCREWED on! The files are of course made in china, so I don't expect too much from them. They will be fine for light use, but if I had known about this ridiculous packaging, I probably wouldn't have bought them. There is more package than files.
I just used the larger half-round file for the first time, and it broke in half in my hands while using it. See the photo at the top of the page. I can see the flaw in the metal where it broke. I'm getting so tired of all this chinese garbage. |
