A nice set to have around the house,

If you already have a took kit you probably don't need this set, however this is perfect for a college student or as a housewarming gift for someone moving in to their first apartment or house. Some of the items are a little on the flimsy side and the case is a little odd but if you need a hammer or screwdriver quickly you will know where to find it. I have to say that it seems a little pricey to me for what it is but once you have it you will probably forget about the cost and just be glad that you have what you need on hand. I hope that you enjoy my short video review.

This is a very nice little stater set and I was very impressed when I looked it over. Got it on a lightning deal; so it was even more impressive. I'm not rating this as a $2,000 "Mr. Handyman" array; but for what it is, a nice little starter set. It exceeds at that task.

Good for the money,

I got this set because I needed a few tools for light repairs and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This set has held up for over two years of light wear. Not high quality but not poor quality either. A nice starter set.

Got this for my son's freshman dorm room. Very helpful during setup - parents, kids coming down hall to ask to borrow pieces. Everything was very study and in a nice case. I am sure they will continue to use this for various tasks. Very good set for the price.

I really like the idea of this product to have a number of common tools (along with picture hangers, nails, and such) all stored in a convenient storage container. However, this particular set contains a number of low-quality items and has some flaws in the design of the container.
In my opinion, most of the tools are low-quality and could be purchased for little money. Two that stand out to me are the tape measure and scissors. The tape measure is equivalent to the ones that are given away for free by advertisers, and the scissors are plastic with metals strips held in place. The hammer is pretty wimpy, but it would be fine for putting the supplied nails into walls to hang pictures. The pliers are pretty decent, and the screwdriver isn't too bad. The storage container has some sharp edges, too, and it would be easy to cut yourself trying to get one of the items (such as the scissors) out of the front panel. The added items (nails, picture hangers, paper clips, and some other things) are a nice touch. It helps to make this kit more useful to an apartment dweller. However, the overall low-quality of the kit leads me to recommend looking elsewhere unless you only need a very basic set and don't mind the cost.

This is a great tool kit. It is full of tools that you use around the house for common everyday jobs. The tools are stored in a handy box that are easity accessable. The only problem I had with this kit is there are no instructions as to how to open the box. It took me a while to figure it out. Once I got the box open, it was a hit.

I've been a home owner for several years, and there isn't anything in this tool kit that I don't already own in a better version. Why then would I give it five stars? This tool kit has everything I would have ever needed in my college dormitory or my first apartment, all of those things you don't think about. The thing I like about this tool kit versus some of the other, larger, sets is the simplicity of it. Every tool in it has an obvious purpose and is easy to use. As a college freshman, if you had given me a power tool, I would have tried to find a way to use it. This tool set has everything you need, but nothing that will let you get yourself in trouble. I love that it comes with a corkscrew. I'm sure I'm not the only college kid that resorted to opening a bottle of wine by hammering the cork in with a butter knife and a shoe, or used that same butter knife as a screwdriver. Screwdrivers, exacto knife, corkscrew, hammer, tape measure in a sturdy, well organized carry case - all of the things I could have used but never even thought I needed.

I've been trying to figure out why I sort of dislike this package of tools. The main reason is it seems to be aimed at the prototypical urbanite's first apartment. Why else to include a corkscrew/bottle opener/bag opener in a tool box? Or have all those fasteners for temporally hanging frames. I own a home, if I want to hang a frame, I drill an inch worth of wood screw most of the way into a stud, I don't mess around with thumb tacks or finishing nails. I would not use these fasteners in a home setting. In fact, I did try to use one of the fasteners on an old picture frame, and was unable to attach it to the frame's hard wood with the tools in this kit. Would have needed a short wood screw and a cordless drill (which this kit does not include.)
The tools themselves seem to be of more than adequate quality; I've seen some pretty bad toolkits in my day, and these are actually pretty good, decent steel and OK handles, although the choice of plastic makes the tape measure look toyish. Not great but I'm happy to have the hammer, pliers and screwdrivers; they will get used. I should also give KR Tools credit for not counting all the fasteners as "pieces", the only semi iffy claim is counting the backup utility blades as pieces. I guess they didn't want to be a thirteen piece toolkit. I will dock a half a point for how hard it is to remove the temporary plastic retaining pin holding the case closed during shipping. I ended up drilling it out with a cordless drill; not the safest or easiest thing to do. So, if this is a gift for a young person moving into a college dorm, or their first apartment--someone who pulls a lot of corks and hangs a lot of picture. Then yes, I can see it as being useful and appreciated. For anybody old enough to own a home and a few tools already, not so much.

This is a very good basic assortment of tools for someone wanting a ready made set of "the bare necessities" on hand to cope with basic home repair problems and simple projects. It's not going to be enough to build your dream house. But that's not the purpose of a kit like this.
People who are very into their tools may scoff at instant tool kits like this. But the purpose of a kit like this isn't construction or major home projects. The purpose is to give you what you need for coping with the sorts of minor repairs that come up at home and the kind of knock-down furniture assembly challenges regularly handed out by places like Ikea. Although the rather turquoise color of the handles may scream "wussy" to some macho guys the color may also appeal to many women put off by the "guy-ness" of many tools. The quality seems good on all these items and the set seems a perfect choice for a student with first apartment, a single person setting up house or anyone else needing to keep a few well chosen tools on hand. Recommended.

Tool kit for college,

I bought this tool kit for my son to take with him when he moved back to school. We used it throughout the day as we moved him and his friends into their house. A new neighbor even came over to borrow the hammer. Everything was quality with the exception of the knife/blade. It was difficult to use and ended up breaking. All of the other items were useful and will probably last throughout his college years and beyond. The small compartment filled with assorted nails, hooks, etc. proved to come in handy as well. Definately a good starter kit.
