I used the Kreg deck jig to build a custom 2-story deck with composite deck boards. One bit has lasted three boxes so far and still going strong. I need another four boxes to re-deck my front porch and won't hesitate to use the screws or the Kreg Jig. I would definitely recommend for a clean look. My only suggestion is you have a separate drill/driver for the drill bit and driver bit to speed up the process.

First off, these screws, as part of the hidden fastener system, is not intended for treated lumber. It is for the various plastic-type deck board that do not shrink. They work with treated lumber, but only when installed in the traditional method.

I bought these originally for my treated lumber deck, but when I learned it was not for treated lumber, I was going to return them. Then I had my installer try them out as regular face down screws. He and my buddy who were in this industry for a long time, were both amazed by how well these conceal.

Since the heads are so small, they are hard to see at an angle. So when you look at your deck at an angle, as you typically do, you literally cannot see the screws.

The price really is on par with most deck screws, but WAY worth the price.

The real review I suppose is for the whole Deck Jig system. Very nice look with the tan colored screw and our southern pine decking. There is usually a little bit of residual wood left around the hole after pre-drilling the hole, but it can be brushed away or sanded and the finished decking as a whole looks very sharp. A bit time consuming, but no longer than making a mortise and installing another type of hidden fastener I don't think.

Overall, I would recommended it.

We finished a 15X16 upper deck, and 12X12 lower deck with two 700 count boxes of screws and just have a few to spare, so that might give you an idea of how much it can cover. We used 5/4" X 5 1/2" decking with 1/4" gap.

Used these on fresh (Still wet) treated decking lumber for a new deck I'm building. I had zero heads strip out. The bit that comes with the screws to my surprise lasted through all 700 screws. My only complaint was the length of the bit (its like 6 Inches long). Buying a second box now. Oh! and there 10 dollars less then Home Depot and Lowes.

The screws work well. I just installed a large amout of wood decking using these screws and they worked good to secure the deck boards. They won't hold down the deck boards like a regular deck screw driven straight into the boards, but they do hold it secure. Will have to see how well the small heads hold down the boards over time/prevent the boards from cupping. I think these screws and the Kreg Deck Jig would be ideal for composite decking; jury is still out (for me) for use with wood decking.

The Kreg Deck Jig and these screws do what they say in terms of keeping the screws and holes out of sight on decking. Makes for a nice, smooth, undisturbed top surface on your deck boards.

When used with the Kreg Deck Jig, this is a far superior product to exposed top screws or retrofit concealed edge fasteners when dealing with decking that doesn't have a concealed fastener groove on the sides. The screws end up barely visible in most cases. The one caveat is that if the decking is spaced too closely, the drill will nick the edge of the adjacent deck board. Stick with the 5/16" spacers and this will reduce or eliminate this problem.

I bought these to go with the Deck Jig but sent everything back. I've been building custom homes for 30 years and I think the Jig is a great idea, but the execution in my case didn't work out. I was going to use it to install 1x6 Ipe decking (600sf)but when I tried the jig, it would occasionally leave partial half circle holes on the top edge of the board where the bit was drilling for the angled hole. I ended up face screwing and plugging the deck. Looks nice, but a lot of work.

I use these screws with my Kreg deck jig. The boards are held down tight and the screws do not show.
Easy to carry container. The screws are coated for use in treated wood. I use two cordless drills.
One for the drill and one for the dcrew bit.
Good price and great value.
