This new video from Kristi Yamaguchi and her trainer Erin O'Brien is a pretty intense cardio workout. I kept waiting for the easier part, but there wasn't any! It's separated into several segments so you can pick and choose or you can do the entire 53 minutes. There's a brief (but adequate) warm-up section, three cardio sections, a wrap-up, a core, and a cool-down section.

The strengths of this workout are: excellent cardio that will really get your heart rate up and have you sweating. I also liked how Kristi showed the more difficult moves and Erin would show the low-impact or more intermediate moves. Interspersed with the cardio was quite a bit of weight training for arms, which was excellent. I also liked the general feel of the video--it was easy to follow, Erin and Kristi have nice personalities so it would not be annoying to watch repeatedly, and the music is very background. I felt worn out while doing the workout, but I felt energized afterward.

What I feel are the weaker points are: not much spot toning, particular in the lower half/legs. As well, some of the ab/core moves were so difficult for me (they may not be for someone else) that I wasn't able to do them or at least as many as I was supposed to, so I didn't feel I got as good a workout on my abs. With that in mind, I would do this video a few times a week, alternated with another one that intensely targeted specific muscle groups.

Overall, it's very good--I would rate it intermediate to difficult--and it certainly lives up to its "power workout" title!

As you may surmise from my review title, I am an Erin O'Brien fan. :-D I think her workouts are safe, sound, and effective for all but truly advanced exercisers, and for me they are also great fun! Be advised that they are in no way "hard core" (Jillian she's not!) but they're generally appropriate - or modifiable - for most ages, levels and abilities.

Although this particular DVD falls under Kristi's name it's very much an Erin workout, although this time it's a cardio/sculpt routine. As with Erin's other workouts this DVD is not glitzy, glamorous or over-produced. A simple home-like setting, basic music background to keep the beat (but for some reason doesn't bore me through repeat viewings as most videos do) and a minimum of equipment required. Don't forget to gently increase your weight load over time. Erin cautions not to exceed 8-pound dumbbells with all her videos, but I use different weights for different exercises and sometimes use 10. ;)

Others have pointed out that legs are not heavily addressed in this video, but if you alternate this with Erin's other circuit programs Strong Body, Ageless Body with Erin O'Brien and Strong Body Fit Body you will resolve that issue. Using all three weekly gives one a nicely balanced variety of exercises and strength-training modalities. Just add some cardio with yoga or stretching on the alternating days and see what happens!

Just finished this workout and liked it a lot. On this DVD, Kristi works with Erin O'Brien, who demonstrates the moves. I like Erin O'Brien from her own DVDs and she's equally good on this one, giving solid cues and tips for proper form. Kristi and Erin's chatter is encouraging without being annoying. The workout is broken into sections: a warm up, 3 10 minute circuits which start with cardio and then move to strength exercises, a short cardio wrap up which puts all the cardio moves together, a short core workout, and a stretch and cool down. You can choose individual sections or combine all for close to an hour workout. The cardio is strong but includes both high impact and low impact alternatives. This was a good, enjoyable total body workout.

I am an over 50 woman who is committed to getting back into shape by maintaining a health weight. I was hooked on the Jane Fonda floor workouts and this comes pretty close. I like that two intensity levels are demonstrated througout the tape. I also like that this is split in to three different time cycles so if I need to divide my workouts throughout the day I can. I do recommend this for the person reentering the workout world, but probably not for the die hard trained athletes.

As a huge fan of Erin O'Brien's Strong Body, Ageless Body, I ordered this DVD mostly because her newer workout Strong Body, Fit Body looks really hard, and this seemed like a good middle between the two. I gotta say I'm happy with this workout.

It's split into three circuit sections, the first 5 minutes being a cardio routine and the second five weights. Then there's a five minute set where you put together all the cardio, a ten minute set of floor work, and a stretch segment. There's some difficult moves, but nothing too difficult--it helps that O'Brien seems to know when something's burning and lets you know that it's almost over instead of just going on and on with no commentary like a lot of other instructors. I of course love her as an instructor, and Yamaguchi is helpful in this as well, offering up tougher modifications.

My only thing is that, if you want to enjoy this the most, make sure you have a bigger space. I did this in my tiny apartment living room and was wishing I could jump around and travel a little more. Also, I HATE lunges...I know they're effective, but uuarughhh. There's a lunge-heavy segment on this thing that I DREAD.

All in all, a solid workout. Erin O'Brien is great.
