My friends when they first saw these were all like "DAMN, BRO, NICE BUMBLE BEES" and I was all like "JUST SHUT UP AND LISTEN," and then I cranked up some ENIGMA RETURN TO INNOCENCE and when the native american started singing they TOTALLY SHUT UP. I could tell they were beginning to cry, as the mix's true character and emotion FINALLY came through like it never could have on their El Camino's meager sound system. Not even the wind sweeping through the hair on the highway could substitute for the voluminous air these speakers push. It was like experiencing a breathtaking vista in Arizona and finally returning a piece of that precious innocence we all lost in the summer of '83. Thanks, KRK for the healing your speakers gave. And thank you ENIGMA

Ok, for starters, the build quality is super nice, heavy construction, rubber pad already on bottom, and when you turn them on the KRK logo is illuminated, neat. Speakers are exposed, but look nice on the KRK. Each speaker is individual with each it's own power, so 2 power cables. Has 3 different inputs in the back, TSR, XLR and rca jack, and treble, bass, volume adjustments all on the back as well. They're quite big too compared to say the M-Audio AV40's and the M-Audios have the same input connections but also have a metal grill covering both tweeter and woofer around just the speaker area, no audio adjustments, and they look great. Sound quality, well I'm mixed here. My M-Audios were very flat and sounded great with a variety of music, movies and games, they were very transparent and even with the smaller woofer, I felt the bass was still tight and clean. I found these KRK's to get muddy with the bass boosted on music/audio that had more bass, but again, with quality recordings, sounds like the band is right in front of you. For the music that sounded muddy on the KRK, i then turned off the boost on both spkrs back to 0db and it sounded better but of course less bass. I guess the M-Audio's sound is enhanced as well and unchangeable, but I don't need to change it as it's balanced perfectly. As for the controls, I wish there was a cable that you could adjust volume on both KRK's with one knob (in the front) or a remote control that works on both speakers. But no, you have all adjustment knobs from the back on the KRK. One cool feature on the KRK's, and I guess this is good for studios is the click knobs, you can tell how many clicks you adjusted volume, pretty cool.Read more ›

I find these monitors punchy and balanced. The mid range frequencies are clear and well defined. Very good bass and even the treble is a pleasure to hear. The frequency adjustments make it easy to configure them for small to medium sized listening space. The auto mute is a very nice feature. I would get them again.

I am in no way a professional sound mixer by any means. Therefore take my review as is. The monitors are very well built and deliver excellent sound and clarity (at least to my ears they do). They are rather big in size, so make sure you have a lot of space on your music desk/workstation. Aside from that I like that fact that each monitor has its own independent power cord/supply. One thing to note, which I assume everyone already knows, keep your audio cables away from the power cord. hehe. So all in all pick these bad boys up if you have a $300 budget, won't be let down.

Great small and somewhat affordable speaker (not everyone is rich) I expected these to be not that loud but when I hooked up my turn tables and cranked up the volume I was impressed great sound from these little guys, I recommend to any produce and DJ, these work for small house party, BBQ, pool side and just relaxing

I simply chose the KRK's not only for its quality but I like the fact they have a generation series line. You have the option of picking which generation best suits your needs; whether it be just starting a new hobby or professionally...

Great near field monitors. I've used larger studio monitors in a home studio for some time, but was sorely missing the clarity of a good pair of near field monitors. In the past we had some Yamaha NS10's for mixing, but these have long since departed. I finally broke down and tried a pair of these little KRK 5's, they were just what I was looking for. A little less brash than the NS10, but still very balanced. They allow distinguishing and putting a magnifying glass on each area of the mix equally, which is exactly what I needed. They aren't the greatest sounding speakers for just listening to a groove, but I don't think they were designed to be. As a near field monitor, however, they are very honest to the mix. I would highly recommend these.

To start my background is I'm a video editor who has to do sound design sometimes.
These are pretty great. Not as much low end as I expected and I had a ground loop issue that I haven't had with any other speakers but I got it resolved. The only real issue I have with these speakers is that after about 2 hours they will turn off, the light stays on, but they will not play any sound. I have no idea why, I will still be playing from my computer but the monitors will stop. It's extremely irritating. If anyone knows a fix for that I'd love to hear it.
