I ordered this product to use on kitchen cabinets in a house I'm flipping. The cabinets are really low-end paper over partical board, and couldn't take much sanding. Gloss Off worked great. The paint and primer adhered well, and saved me from costly cabinet replacement.

Used on old bathroom cabinets before painting them. The paint went on perfectly, no issues whatsoever. The cabinets were cheap particleboard type cabinets from the 80's. This product saved lots of time and hassle trying to sand these down. We just wiped them with this product and 10 minutes later we were painting. Highly recommended.

Krud Kutter Gloss-Off doesn't degloss, even though the container says it does. I called the company after noticing no gloss reduction, and they said as much. It's a cleaner/degreaser, and nothing more. The two active ingredients in the product are common ingredients for cleaners, so there's nothing in it that would remove gloss--or command a high price. It's not a bad cleaner, but you're paying ten bucks a quart for something that's worth two, or less (check your dollar store). It's benign, with little or no odor, and requires no rinsing, which is an advantage over something like TSP, but in the end, all you have is a degreased surface, still glossy. This means that you're depending on something other than a surface with some tooth to it to provide adhesion. Fortunately, some primers, such as Zissner Bullseye 123, will adhere well to glossy surfaces. Otherwise, you'd be back in the past, where everybody knew you had better sand glossy surfaces to give the paint something to grip. I sanded anyway, because there's no way the makers of this product are going to come out and redo my cabinets.
