A word about the "wood optics" detailing - I googled this term and it seems to be something Krups has made up to describe the faux wood grain featured on this model. It is something you'll definitely notice straight out of the box but probably not enough to think it's a deal breaker. As I mention in the video I think it may actually be a *good* thing that the faux finish is made of a material designed to work with heat/steam/water as opposed to real wood that may have been less suitable in this application. The listing detail photos which offer close-up and zoom views of the handle give a much better idea of exactly what the wood optic finish looks like. This model has a TWO year manufacturer's warranty which might help calm any fears about the wear and durability of this machine.
If you have to boil water, this is definitely a high end, high *art* way to do it.
And I have to say, I love the faux-wooden handle. (The handle is actually plastic but it looks and feels almost like wood.) I kept burning myself using our old kettle and, as my skin is allergic to just about everything (including creams that are supposed to help burns) this was actually quite serious. So I love that I don't have to worry as much about burns anymore. And of course there is the lighter. When you turn the kettle on, the light at the back lights up and as the light is quite bright, you always know when the kettle is on.
If I have a minor quibble with the kettle it's this: it's almost too shiny. It has an almost perfect mirror finish. I am not saying it looks cheap, far from it but it does tend to draw the eye. We have a fifties-style kitchen: white and blue tiles and white counters and, as a result, this kettle is pretty much the first thing you look at when you walk in. Other than that it's almost the perfect kettle and well worth the price.
I thought Krups would be one of the better brands for this type of item, but from this experience, I will not be buying another Krups.
Yes, it is a bit large for my kitchen but i decided i could live with it.
I followed the directions and boiled water 4 or 5 times before i actually started using it.
It could be me, but I think the tea i made tasted differently.
But i still liked the look so i decided to neglect the taste. Plus i was hoping it will go away with time..
However on the the third day, the lid stopped opening. I tried many times; I also tried to open it manually. In vain! It did not open! Luckily, Amazon was nice and accepted the return without questions.
I have to also mention that because the pivot of the lid is positioned diametrically, it makes it very difficult to fill it with water.
So, even with this great look, I do not think this kettle is worth the money.

A year later I still love this- it has held up well to daily use and it looks great on my counter. Minor chipping in the chrome-like finish but nothing anybody but me would notice.Published 21 days ago by bogblueberry

I adored this kettle until it started leaking a few weeks ago. The leaking has also caused the fake wood from the bottom to peel off. Read morePublished 3 months ago by Knuckle Sandwich
