We bought this at Target for our 3 1/2 year old 'little lady', and she loves it! It works flawlessly, seems fairly well built, and it actually sounds very good for the price! The sound is surprisingly full with good detail for a thirty dollar boom box. It also has a CD player, cassette player, AM and FM, which makes the unit very functional. Needless to say, if your child is a 'Hello Kitty' fan, she will LOVE this 'boom box'!

UPDATE: June 1, 2009 - DO NOT BUY THIS BOOMBOX!!! FOR NO APPARENT REASON AT ALL, THIS STARTED SMOKING... YES, SMOKING, AND SEVERAL OF OUR SMOKE DETECTORS WENT OFF!!! A FEW HOURS LATER, MY HOUSE STILL REEKS OF BURNT ELECTRONICS, WHICH I'M SURE IS HAZARDOUS. I HAVE ALL THE WINDOWS OPEN, AND MY A/C UNIT ON FULL. BUYER BEWARE!!!

My daughter received this as a holiday present this past December. It's *already* broken. And, we had it up on a shelf where she couldn't get to it so we're sure it wasn't her fault. It won't play CDs anymore. We just get an error message. Beware of this product! It's cute, but won't last.

Within 6 months of purchasing it, the CD player started acting up. Sometimes it would play a CD, other times it wouldn't. After pressing the play button, it seemed not to recognize that a CD was in place, because the CD wouldn't even be spinning. I just put up with it. Six months after that, the CD player stopped working completely. Fortunately, it does have a radio and cassette player function. Cute design, but disappointing function.

My whole kitchen is Hello Kitty teamed and I was SO excited to add this cute little boom box to my counter so I could listen to music while I cooked and washed dishes. It doesn't play CD's most of the time, about once out of every 50 times I try. And it ate the only tape I tried playing in it. The radio works.

Luckily for us, this broke within 30 minutes of use by two very gentle girls (the cover won't close anymore). Lucky because we were still able to return it to the store. Seemed great, but clearly from the track record of these reviews it breaks down a lot. If it were super cheap, maybe it would be worth the risk. But we paid $30 for it.

It won't play CDs anymore. We got an error message a few days ago, but it would still play. Today, it won't even spin and the CD display is blank.

We got this boom box for our 5-year-old a few weeks ago for Christmas, since she's been responsibly and carefully listening to her audio books on ours for a year. I put the first CD in myself, and it worked fine for an hour or so, but on the second use the CD function completely stopped and hasn't worked since -- it just gives an error message and doesn't even spin. What a disappointment for my little girl, and a frustration for me, who didn't save the receipt!

I feel compelled to write this review since I am currently looking for a new replacement cd player for my daughter for Christmas. We book this Hello Kitty player last year for her birthday and loved it for about 6 months. The cover won't stay closed..cheap plastic latch broke off. So, if we are desperate, we have to litterally tape the lid close and then it will play music. Quite a pain and the whole reason I got this for my 5 year old was so that she could play music on her own. Have to tell you that she is very careful and was not the one who broke the lid. It is just made cheaply! Wish I had read these reviews before I purchased it.

We had the player on top shelf of bookshelf so only adults could access and use it. Much to our surprise, it stopped working after a handful of uses. Very disappointed. Don't purchase. The CD stopped playing and error messages appeared. My husband, who is an electrical PE and car mechanic (on the side) could not even figure out what went wrong. Junk.

Same story here. Our daughter received it as a gift, and within a couple months, the cd player stopped working. It is a huge disappointment. We are now searching for a cd player that works.
