I've always been a fan of using headphones for games. I prefer the privacy and immersion of being the only one to hear what I'm playing. That pretty much ended the day I bought a 5.1 sound card and speakers. I loved the surround sound, but my housemates were stuck with the annoyance of the sounds of endless virtual warfare.

So when I saw these, I just HAD to have them, and I'm glad to say that they don't disappoint. Right out of the box, these headphones work exactly as advertised: 5.1 sound for games and movies, in the privacy of your own personal headset. The sound is clear and voluminous, with good bass response for a pair of headphones (There's no replacement for a real subwoofer). You'll probably notice even more detail in the sound than you would with speakers, thanks to the headset keeping outside noise out and inside noise in.

In previous reviews I've read, there has been some complaint over excessive white noise. Yes, there is some noise when you turn on the amp without any sound. I've yet to wear a pair of headphones that didn't transmit interference from your hard drive, monitor, et cetera. However, it isn't really that loud and is easily drowned out as soon as ANY sound is played. Even the soft ambient noises present in any game level are more than enough to cover it up.

The amplifier itself is small and plenty loud, with a very linear and consistent volume control. It actually has TWO headphone outputs, though I'm yet to find a pair of these headphones for sale without the amp. It also has a neat pass-through feature: It not only has 5.1 inputs, but 5.1 outputs as well. You can plug your speakers in to the outputs, so you can choose whether to use the headphones or use speakers without crawling behind the desk and changing plugs.

These headphones deliver true 5.1 surround sound, just as advertized. As mentioned in another review, the unit does react to cell phone signals, just as I've heard other speakers do. It would seem that the amplifier unit is not properly shielded, however, I am no expert. Keep your cellphone at a safe distance and you should be ok.

However, this aside, you will definately be enveloped by high quality sound. This is great for playing games and watching DVDs. You won't want to go back to 2.1 or any other non-surround headphone setup. Recommended.

Before I bought these headphones, I thought 5.1 surround headphones are nothing but a gimmick. I was thinking that 6 tiny speakers weren't gonna make any difference. Well, I was wrong.

I bought this pair with computer gaming in mind. As such, I care more about directional precision than plain sound fidelity. When you play first-person shooter games like I do, you want to know precisely where the enemy is, and nothing beats a true surround system for that purpose. Because running a full set of surround speakers for gaming purpose is out of the question (the explosions and gunfire sounds might be a tad annoying to neighbors within a block radius), I have to settle for a pair of surround headphones.

Well, I'm pleased to report that this pair delivers for gaming. The first time I put it them on, I kept jumping out of my skin because the friggin gunfires sound so real! I'm used to it by now, but once in a while my heart would still skip a beat when an enemy pops out real close and shoots my face. In terms of pinpointing the source of any noise, this pair works wonderfully. I can definitely tell where the enemy is coming from, because even faint footsteps don't escape these phones.

Now, I'm happy enough that they work for games, so to find that they also deliver good music is exhilarating. When I fired up my iTunes, I was surprised to find something really close to a true subwoofer. You can feel the vibe from a real sub all over your body, while only your head can feel the vibe from these phones. Well, since theyre HEADphones, I say that they're succesful. Since their 6 speakers enable true separation between bass and treble audio tracks, the vocal sounds crisp while the bass still has the oomph.

Less expensive than any other set. Will give you a real edge if gaming is your intended use. A little noise from the amp, but, again, if gaming is your thing you won't even notice. Cables are a bit fragile, as my three year old took mine apart. Oh well, considering the price of comperable sets, I've gone and gotten another set...

For fifty bucks you cant beat these headphones,

There is a little white noise, but when you playing Halo2 with these on with the volume up you cant hear anything but the game.

The simulated surround is really good as with the base, I found myself being really scared at times playeing halo 2 because of all the surround sound I was not use to hearing.

Also works well with the movies. The unit comes with all adaptions for any kind of hook up required.

Im sure there are better models out there if you want to pay the money. For the price you cant beat these.

Im going to be buying two more sets for my brothers so we dont wake up the kids when were haveing our halo partys.
