Very stiff over the Bell lowering shocks I had in there (not worn out just replaced). I replaced the rear stock leaf springs that were showing their age (23 years strong!) with stronger thicker leaf packs and the Bell shocks that were on the back with these, so that may affect my feeling from the drivers seat since it was not apples to apples. However, I love the control these shocks give, I am very confident when I tow anything, unlike before with the Bell shocks. The shocks handle bumps and driving while unloaded acceptably, but they handle weight and towing fantastic.
Again, my review may be biased because my leafs are stiffer and thicker than stock!
If you need more control, these are as stiff as I would ever go. They handle wonderfully when loaded, but don't get them if you have a light truck or don't tow anything the majority of the time, you might regret it (I don't!).
I bought my 1995 Bronco (Eddie Bauer with a 351W) back in May of this year (rust-free; NM desert FTW), and I finally got around to replacing the shocks last weekend. I figured my existing shocks were more or less blown, as the truck was handling and riding wayyy too much like an old school bus. I wanted some shocks that were heavy-duty without being explicitly for off-roading (I want my rig to be able to go anywhere and tow well, but I have little intentions of ever rock-crawling or mudding in it), and these KYB MonoMaxes fit the bill nicely.
As others have noted, these come uncompressed and they don't mess around. To make the removal of my rig's busted who-knows-how-old Monroes easier, I sprayed my nuts and bolts the night before with PB Blaster. I replaced my fronts at the same time as the rears with KYB Monomax 565043s. My Bronco rolls on 33s with a 3-inch body lift, so it's supereasy to get under it.
Knowing that these HD shocks come uncompressed, I figured jacking the truck up by the frame would be the best way to extend the shocks as much as possible during installation. Easier said than done with my rig's setup, but I have a Powerbuilt 3-Ton Bottle Jack with Jack Stand--you should totally buy one if you have a truck, BTW--that I placed under my hitch (which is ~5 inches lower than my frame) to change the rears.Read more ›

And better price
These are very nice shocks. Firmed up the ride on my 2001 Ford diesel Excursion. Only thing that kept them from earning 5 stars was the quality of the paint / powdercoat. Read morePublished 12 months ago by Ductape
