Product Description

Tough conditions demand tough truck shocks. The large bore KYB MonoMax provides the additional stability that heavier, more powerful or high center of gravity vehicles demand. The KYB MonoMax is a heavy duty monotube shock absorber that provides the most handling, control and durability of any KYB shock… and it's just for trucks. The MonoMax's tough design automatically adjusts to driving conditions with fade-free performance. The KYB MonoMax has an outstanding reputation for vehicles that do real work, go off-road, tow a trailer or haul heavy loads. It uses a work-ready zinc-coated steel piston ring and includes an off-road dust boot. The KYB MonoMax is a high pressure, Nitrogen gas-charged monotube shock absorber designed for trucks.

Fit 1992 F350 Dually with 460 engine, not 4x4.

Very stiff over the Bell lowering shocks I had in there (not worn out just replaced). I replaced the rear stock leaf springs that were showing their age (23 years strong!) with stronger thicker leaf packs and the Bell shocks that were on the back with these, so that may affect my feeling from the drivers seat since it was not apples to apples. However, I love the control these shocks give, I am very confident when I tow anything, unlike before with the Bell shocks. The shocks handle bumps and driving while unloaded acceptably, but they handle weight and towing fantastic.

Again, my review may be biased because my leafs are stiffer and thicker than stock!

If you need more control, these are as stiff as I would ever go. They handle wonderfully when loaded, but don't get them if you have a light truck or don't tow anything the majority of the time, you might regret it (I don't!).

Buy These!

I bought my 1995 Bronco (Eddie Bauer with a 351W) back in May of this year (rust-free; NM desert FTW), and I finally got around to replacing the shocks last weekend. I figured my existing shocks were more or less blown, as the truck was handling and riding wayyy too much like an old school bus. I wanted some shocks that were heavy-duty without being explicitly for off-roading (I want my rig to be able to go anywhere and tow well, but I have little intentions of ever rock-crawling or mudding in it), and these KYB MonoMaxes fit the bill nicely.

As others have noted, these come uncompressed and they don't mess around. To make the removal of my rig's busted who-knows-how-old Monroes easier, I sprayed my nuts and bolts the night before with PB Blaster. I replaced my fronts at the same time as the rears with KYB Monomax 565043s. My Bronco rolls on 33s with a 3-inch body lift, so it's supereasy to get under it.

Knowing that these HD shocks come uncompressed, I figured jacking the truck up by the frame would be the best way to extend the shocks as much as possible during installation. Easier said than done with my rig's setup, but I have a Powerbuilt 3-Ton Bottle Jack with Jack Stand--you should totally buy one if you have a truck, BTW--that I placed under my hitch (which is ~5 inches lower than my frame) to change the rears.

I have a 2001 Trooper with 95,000 miles on a set of Old Man Emu gas charged shocks that I just replaced with the Monomax. I was surprised how much pressure it took to compress these to install them! I weigh around 200 lbs and it was all I could do to get these to give. Even though that part of the installation was a real bear, these shocks are well worth the effort! They improved the handling and tracking of the Trooper more than I had expected, but the ride is still not harsh or truck-like. I can recommend these without any hesitation.

Great shock. A bit on the HD side so any real offroaders this is good stuff for the $. Recommended by my mechanic bud (got for $44 each), bought 'em, put 'em on, and the ride is controlled and solid. A bit on the stiff side for my uses, but that offroad capability is definitely there.

Installed on our 2001 F250 superduty 4x4. A little stiffer then the original shocks but feels much tighter and more stable. Old shocks were dead so it raised the front end up about a inch. Loving them!

The shocks were delivered quicker than the time told which was good. I put them on my 99 f250 superduty and they are a big difference over the stock shocks and the ride is much better... I can easily put 4 dirt bikes in the back along with a trailer and gear and the shocks performed very well. I recommend these for the do it all on road off road enthusiast. They were also a lot less expensive then rancho and seem to perform better

Three days on my F250 diesel upfront and they are great. Took all the steering play out and the ride is smoother than expected.

Mounted straight up with no issues. Replaced my OEM Ranchos that were in bad need of replacement. I can already tell a difference in my truck.
