This knife is one of my personal favorites, amongst an extensive collection of popular (and high quality) knives that's saying something. Great Becker blade shape and the great Izula handle. This combination provides the reasonable price point and Becker blade shape of the Becker Necker and the the superior handle of the Esee Isula. Great factory edge, and probably one of the only edc'able fixed blade knives that are actually useful.

Pros:
cheaper than the Izula
Better handle than the BK11
Great edge
Built well
Designed well
Looks cool

Cons:
Sheath is not so great, it does its job but the knife has a little wiggle room, and its pretty big
Izula handle scales don't fit without some light modification
Coating is not as durable as the Esee Izula

Final word: no big problems with the knife itself but the sheath could use a little work 5/5 9/10

I am typically not a fan of skeletonized knives that don't use some type of scale or handle material, but after wrapping the handle of the Eskabar in cord I was pleasantly surprised. I believe this comes from the inherent excellence in design from ESEE, who developed the handle for their excellent Izula knife. The Eskabar is a perfect marriage of the Becker blade to the Izula handle.

I am a fan of 1095 steel in utility blades because you don't need a diamond or ceramic hone to re-sharpen it like some of the better super steels used in higher end blades. I am very satisfied with the edge and design of the blade. If ESEE or Ka Bar provided the option of scales for the handle, I would have awarded this product with five stars.

I also like the sheath, which has its detractors. I prefer versatility over form, so even though the sheath is a bit bulky in comparison to the average neck knife, I like the ability to attach a TDI belt clip to it if I want or to lash it in place. ESEE is one of the few companies in existence who bothers to develop some level of modularity in their sheaths, and I appreciate that Ka Bar has elected to follow along with that theory with the Eskabar. For those of you reading this that don't know, the Eskabar is a cooperative venture combining the ESEE brand Izula handle with the Becker/Ka Bar blade.

If you are looking for a simple, flat profile utility knife for a reasonable price, this is a contender!

** I added G10 Izula handles to this knife and it is much better than before. Had to modify the scales to get them to fit okay but wow, this knife feels so much better in the hand now. That is another modification I strongly recommend to add to the knife.

At first i was a little disappointed with the size. I had expected it to be a smaller blade, but its pretty tiny. I do not regret buying it. Do not under estimate this knife. Its capable of a great edge and its nice and trim for carry. Discreet enough for the local trails around my area.

The sheath..... Rattle and blade fowl happens. Its very fixable. I actually like it. You can lash a leatherman on top and use a tek lok. Done. Everything you need for an EDC.
Check out this link [...] Maybe it will help you. I do plan on making a little kydex sheath for it anyway.

I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a functional and practical knife for daily use. A lot of reviews say the same thing. I'll say it too. Its NOT a a tactical blade, so if you want to kill zombies. Buy a machete.

This is a great little knife!

The good
. Perfect size for 90% of tasks
. very strong
. comes with a decent edge
. knife and sheath fit in pocket better then wallet!

The bad
. The knife is not perfectly flat
. knife rattles in sheath

Mods and fixes
. used neck cord to wrap handle - This is a great help in grip!
. convexed edge - now cuts like crazy!
. took a small piece of neck cord and put inside sheath on edge side - no more rattle and knife stays sharp!
. ka-bar tdi belt clip helps allot

Over all this is the kind of knife one would buy to mod and make their own.

this is basically the same knife as a bk11... blade is the same... steel is the same... coating is the same... sheath is exactly the same (which surprised me)... sharp out of the box (unlike early BK11s)

i like this knife almost more than my BK11... you lose the bottle opener, but gain a skosh more grip...

the one advantage over the BK11 is that the ESEE micarta grips are cheaper than those for the BK11 (and fit w/a little sanding)...

not a bad little knife, and eminently worthy of EDC

The EsKabar is an improvement on the previous Becker "Necker" knife, eliminating the silly bottle opener on the end of the handle, giving you a bit more real estate to work with, and improving the ergonomics of the handle overall. It's now quite comfy in the hand; a useful and practical small knife. I highly recommend purchasing the micarta scales for this product--but since they haven't come out with scales specifically meant for this design, you'll have to buy the Izula scales online and then do a bit of filing and shaving to make them fit. It's worth it, though, the result will feel much more sturdy and durable than simply wrapping it with paracord.
A very solid knife--my only concern is that the price as advertised here is about twenty dollars more than I paid for it elsewhere.
