Product Description

Kaboom Cereal leads to happy clown faces drenched in highly saturated, weapons-grade food coloring. Marshmallow stars provide a secondary buzz. After a few bites of Kaboom, you could control hummingbirds with your mind and see all the way to the edge of the universe. Kaboom turned milk an interesting shade of grayish purple.

The original Kaboom was an oat cereal. About four years ago General Mills changed the recipe so that the primary ingredient is corn. The result is very different, in a bad way.

I used to buy several boxes of Kaboom in South Carolina when I would visit my parents and ship it back to Massachusetts so it would be waiting for me when I got back home. I don't bother anymore.

It's really sad because General Mills ruined a classic.

Kaboom cereal famously made millions of children happy every morning at breakfast. It's mesmerizing rainbow of happy faces, glittered with tiny white stars, will forever be remembered as the natural Prozac. Never again will we see that happy clown, the only un-creepy crown EVER, brighten the morning of kids across the nation. It probably prevented suicides, bullying, ADHD, and every other reason for childhood dysfunction. Its oaty happiness cannot, will not, be replicated. Nor will it's lightly sweetened stars, which turned to soft, sweet clouds when soaked in milk. Shame on you, General Mills, for destroying America's mornings and draining the serotonin from our children. YOU, General Mills, are the reason for societal dysfunction. Rest in peace, Kaboom....you will live forever in our tastebuds' memories. 1969-2010.

I can't tell you how excited I was when I found Kaboom cereal on Amazon. This was my absolute favorite cereal when I was a kid in the 70's. I remember being so upset when we were no longer able to find it in the stores in our area. Well the excitement quickly turned to complete disapointment when I took the first bite. It tasted nothing like before. Why did they have to change a good thing?!? If you are looking for the same cereal from your childhood, do not order this product.

I was at my local grocery store today (04/06/09) and since I have been having a hankering for Quisp cereal, I thought I'd stroll down the cereal aisle to see if I might find a box. Though I didn't, I did see Kaboom cereal and would have kicked myself if I left the store without buying a box. I couldn't wait to get home and try a bowl or two before going to bed. There was a slight hint of what the cereal used to taste like, but I was rather disappointed as it seemed blander than what I remembered. I didn't look at the ingredients, but was wondering if General Mills had done like what many carbonated beverage companies have done and substituted sugar with high fructose corn syrup. I saw that another person commented that the main ingredient was now corn. If a company is going to reintroduce a cereal, they should at least have the decency to maintain the integrity of the original recipe. All in all, I don't regret my purchase, but was a little disappointed none the less.
