I have a least 6 or 7 of the books in the Kaffe Fassett series, but this one is a notch off the better ones. The quilts are easy, and the fabrics, as always, are stunning. However, the quilt patterns are beginning to look a bit like ones in previous books. They show off the big patterns in the fabric, but they don't seem unique. If you are only going to get one or two books from this series - check out Quilt Road (my favorite) or Quilts in the Sun. You can use the patterns in those with the newer fabrics he has out now. Even if the quilt patterns are getting stale - the fabrics are as gorgeous as ever!

I'm a HUGE KF fan and have most of his books. This is one of his best as he has introduced new artists who have used his fabrics in creative ways. Kim McLean's work is outstanding and she's sure to become better known as a result of this book. The other designs showcasing his fabrics are, as always, inspirational. Even non-quilters who appreciate the use of color and design will find the photos delicious eye-candy.

I've quilted in "safe" colors for many years. To expand my color sense I'm buying books like Kaffe Fassett's and WOW! does he ever expand your color sense. All those "wild" colors and patterns come together in his quilts. I was amazed at the emotion some of his quilts invoke. QUILT ROMANCE is absolutely great and inspiring. A great way to get out of your quilting rut.

Being a Kaffe Fassett fan, I did like the Fassett quilt patterns included in this book, but they are not as interesting or complicated as his previous designs. Complicated? Well, yes, that's why you want his designs - they usually are very complicated and challenging. If you wanted an easy design, you wouldn't be buying Kaffe Fassett. But, as stated, some of these designs are easier. Not all the designs are Fassett. Of the 20 in the book, 9 are Fassett. Eight other designers are featured including Lisa Prior Lucy. These designs are not bad either - most easier than Fassett's - and all of them feature Fassett's latest fabric collection.

Included in the book, as with other Fassett books, are pages showing all the designs of the fabric collection used in the quilts in the book. I really like having this information because it is really Fassett's unique fabrics that make the quilt designs so interesting. If your quilt shops don't carry his fabrics (and many do not), no problem. Just Google "Kaffe Fassett fabrics", and you'll find a number of places where you can purchase them.

Drawing upon his years of experience in which his work has been acclaimed by American fashion designers and commissioned by the British Monarch, his newest needlecraft publication, "Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Romance: 20 Designs from Rowan for Patchwork and Quilting" continues to document him as one of the premier authorities on quilting today. The theme is presenting twenty new quilts that give homage to past quilting traditions with beautifully designed quilts showcased in display against colorful backgrounds of an Italian-style architecture found within a small Welsh village. Enhanced throughout with the beautiful full-color photography of Debbie Patterson, "Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Romance" offers 'quilter friendly' step-by-step instructions for each quilting project, and is therefore an elegant and enthusiastically recommended addition to personal and community library Needlecraft instructional reference collections.

If your having a hard time with colors then this is a very good book for you to sit down with a take a good look at. I find that I will have to make all the quilts in the book but I am starting out with the front cover which is called a Pickle Dish. It is different then other Pickle Dishes that I have done. I will be using Kaffe's fabrics for other patterns also. Kaffe's colors give you a different way of looking at fabrics. They are fun and cheerful and would be a great asset to any quilter or sewer's collection of fabrics!

Portmeirion North Wales is both the setting and inspiration for quilts in this new book, and the photography is stunning. The opening pages feature Kaffe's new fabrics close up, followed by the quilts shown against the colorful buildings and gardens which inspired them. There is a tempting assortment of 20 projects, most of them pieced, but this book also features a background story about Kim McLean, the Australian quilter who designs applique and uses Fassett's fabrics to advantage. I especially appreciate the careful instructions in the second half of the book, beautifully illustrated to show how to reproduce the quilts with the same fabrics shown.

This is a beautiful book that is an inspiration to quilters who love colour.
The quilts are simple and as far as I can tell, the instructions are clear.
Kaffe Fasset's use of colour is amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. As always Kaffe's designs are wonderful, awesome and so colorful.
I loved the lay out and patterns. So easy, but so effective. Always nice to see a new book on the shelf
from Kaffe.

What more can I say about this book...it is "Fabulous".....beautifully photographed quilts...the designs are simple but dramatic with the vivid use of the colored fabrics. Even if you did not sew a single quilt from this book, leaving it on the coffee table is inspiring enough. Kaffe Fassett's use of traditional patterns with his "romantic" fabrics makes me want to make every quilt in this book.
