These are the Pure Komachi, not Pure Komachi 2, that means no coating on the blade. For me that is an important feature which led to me choosing these knives over the current release Pure Komachi 2. The knives come pretty sharp, but it is easy to polish the edge with a razor hone, or fine stone to get a very sharp edge. I really like the design of the knife, the proportion between the blade and the handle, which carries over to the current release. Like others have said the knife is a useful general purpose mini chef knife great for working on a cutting board, but the blade is a bit wide for the handwork most paring knives are designed for. I love the knife for chopping and cutting small things like garlic, shallots, herbs, but it does not peel apples or core strawberries and tomatoes well, I think a narrower blade profile is needed for such tasks. Overall I give it 5 stars for what it is: a well made small affordable knife that's easy to sharpen, comfortable in the hand, and useful for the cooking tasks I do most frequently; chopping, slicing and mincing. Get them while they're still available.

Very sharp, and a great deal, 3 for the price of one. I am giving them as stocking stuffers for my friends who cook.

The different colors are very useful to identify which knives are used on what
kind of food. Cross-contamination can be avoided-To wit: Not cutting chicken
with the same knife as vegetables, etc. A valid health benefit.
Should correctly be sharpened (when necessary) by someone who posesses
and knows how to use a proper sharpening stone set. The 'pull through' cheap
sharpeners will ruin the cutting edge. Actually true with any quality knife.
