Kai is a MILLION times better than Backstreet or 'N Sync,

Sup everyone. This CD is bomb! I think that KAI can sing so much better than all those other groups out there. They wrote like 10 tracks of their new album. I think that music is mainly about expression, and coming up with your own type of style of music. All those groups out there are gettin' paid millions of dollars for singing songs that other people wrote. I don't think thats right. You come up with your own songs, and you go mainstream and that opens the gate to the rest. Some people have done that. I know that KAI will make it big too! Pick up their latest album. It's called "Promise." You'll love it, if u loved the first one.

Giving the STARS:*- Even if you're the most loyal fan, you don't deserve this album In 1998, an R&B group proved that they are not just "another Asian male group trying to be the next Dru Hill or Boyz II Men". Filipino descents Andrey Silva, Andrew Gapuz, Errol Viray, AC Lorenzo with fellow Chinese member Leo Chan released their self-titled record which sneaked quietly in the record shops five years ago. Maybe you've heard of male Asian-Filipino acts trying to make in the charts like Rozwell, Devotion, C-Quence and Drop N' Harmony. Among them, Kai stands out the rest. Kai (which was tagged from the Tagalog word, Kaibigan, meaning Friend/ Friendship/ Brotherhood) features great lyrics, musical quality and awesome harmonizing in their first CD. Their music is a combination of modern r&b, soul and pop. And yes, their love songs are different from the typical aww-ish corny tunes you constantly hear. They offer emotional vocal potentials that would make their work a classic. Once they sing in their baggy and boyish outfit, you would be surprised how can these Asian guys sing a grand soulful melody. As young as they are, they realize that they don't need expenisve music videos to prove their talents. The first song off the album is "Something Inside of Me", which was pretty much influenced by mainstream pop. I'm not into these boyband-pop music but I had to say that this is a good cut. "Heart to Heart" and "Will You Still Love Me?" are two of the memorable melancholic slow jams in the CD. You could earnestly hear their natural harmonies even if they are not singing in a cappella. "I Got It" is a neat danceable funky tempo while they did a very good cover on "Suddenly". The winner of the album may only run in three and a half minutes but this piano-accompanied song, "Say You'll Stay" is a guaranteed hit. Andrey delivers beautifully and his buddies contribute as well. A weak song in the album is the remix of "Say You'll Stay". Geez, they shouldn't have put that, I think eleven songs will do. The CD may seem a bit premature, but these young vocalists from San Francisco proved that even with their busy schedules, they were able to find time to showcase their craft in music. I give credit to Producer Tristan Bishop who obviously did very well in this album. I hope that Kai would be able to crack their "underground music" plague and market their works to various r&b fans. Kai would surely `stay' if their album will improve the formula they've put in here.

KAI is da Bomb!,

What a group, like an Asian Boyz II Men. It's refreshing to see Asians making cool R&B music. All the songs are great especially the first half of the CD. I've even danced to one of their songs in a Korean night club in K-Town. I hope they make more albums in the future and pave the way for more Asian groups.

They're on their way...,
By A Customer

These guys have real talent - tight harmonies, and tight vocal arrangements. Their sound is far better than that of the candy-coated, syrup-drenched "Backstreet Boys," yet not quite as mature as "Boyz II Men." But Kai is definitely going places. The only thing that might hold them back is their choice of songs and/or songwriters. Their single, "Say You'll Stay," is the only song that stood out with its simple, catchy piano hook. But even this song falls short lyrically, lacking any true emotional depth. The men do save it, however, with their smooth, soothing vocals. Another qualm is the cover of "Suddenly." Although it sounds pretty good, I've never been a fan of covers on any album. But if you're into this album purely for the vocal harmonies and arrangements, Kai's talent in these areas really shines through. They're on their way. In a few more years, they just might give "Boyz II Men" a run for their money. They'll at least blast the "Backstreet Boys," "N Sync," and "5" out of the water.

The harmony between these 5 fellas is outstanding!,

I have anticipated the album release from this group ever since their first single "Say You'll Stay". Just listening to them sing acapella tells you that these fellas could really sing and harmonize. If you like R&B ballads, this is the CD for you. They've got great songs especially, "Heart to Heart" and "Count on Me", which are my favorites. They even do a remake of Billy Oceans hit "Suddenly". Young and talented these guys will be around for awhile, so grab your loved one and have a romantic night listening to Kai!

Kai is one of the best all male groups out there. Although they haven't gotten the respect they deserve, Their first album abd Promise are both really good and I think they could make it big if they were marketed right. I also Have to Show support to my local Bay area groups, but I am the biggest Kai fan regardless. This is definatley worth the buy

To the members of Kai, I give you much respect for the talent that you guys possess and I wanna see and hear more from yall. It's great to have a great album to slow jam to. Especially coming from people of different ethnic backgrounds. I feel that Kai is an inspiration for others with talent to go do what you gotta do if you wanna do it, regardless of who you are. The album is bangin' and I can't get enough of it. It leaves me wanting more. If any of you see this review take my advice and don't stop making the cuts. I'm new to you guys and I'm hella diggin' yall.
