I believe it is a good deal for the price if you are not expecting the more colorful images of an IR cut camera which typically costs over $12 more. I just needed to put under a shelter to make sure my parents had not fallen when going down their handicap ramp for appointments. If they looked a little off color it did not matter to make sure they safe. In case we need evidence for doctors I am also recording through network onto BlueIris using the ip address of the camera with /snapshot.cgi for the path. There is other info on the internet for using the other formats, etc. as you can determine yourself if you use the browser interface that comes with the camera. The only issue I had was trying to see if I could run it at the edge of my wifi signal which seemed to work but then it would drop out, etc., which I expected could happen trying to go too far from the wifi router. Working fine at twenty feet though a wall at the moment where my android tablet shows 50% signal.

I bought this camera specifically because it was the cheapest IP webcamera availible via Amazon Prime at the time. I didn't expect to get a stellar camera for $36 shipped. Yes, it has a laughable engrish manual, and the website on the camera defaults to Chinese and the image quality is so-so at best, but I'm completely happy with my purchase.

That said, this is not a camera I would give to someone who isn't tech savvy, as I was willing (and expecting) to have to go to serious lengths (Wireshark packet capture) to get this integrated with the IP Camera software I use (Blue Iris), but again, this was the cheapest of the cheap IP Cameras.

I've tried a few of these "Foscam knockoff" cameras, and this is by far the worst.

I needed an extra camera to cover a part of my house, and was going to mount it to the ceiling to cover a small room. This camera should have fit the bill.

It arrived in a decent box, and properly packed. Unlike the picture, the front of the camera base was covered with presumably Chinese characters, in addition to the metal "KaiCong" label that shown the picture.

Upon arrival, the lens was so far out of focus that I thought the camera was broken. Only upon twisting the lens (inside the LED area) was I able to finally get a recognizable picture. It never became as clear as my other cameras. Picture quality definitely gets a 1 star, and is definitely NOT HD, as stated in the title.

The WiFi antenna on this unit is permanently attached, unlike some others. Using typical software that works with other knockoffs could not find this camera on my network when attached via a network cable. I was able to finally find it through other means, and tried to log into the interface via the Web. (I did not attempt to load any included software.) The Web site was in Chinese, but, as I am familiar with similar devices, I clicked around until I finally found a submenu that allowed a change into some sort of English. But, note that this change is not permanent, only for that use of the Web interface. Once it was translated into English, I did see a drop-down menu on the first page that allows the change to English, but again, it does not stick, and cannot be saved.

This unit is advertised as not requiring a wi-fi router. We could only get it to work with cable Ethernet. We followed all instructions and could not get the camera to operate in wi-fi ad-hoc (similar to AP) or wi-fi infrastructure mode. In ad-hoc mode, the camera appears as a wi-fi access point and my computer can connect to it, but the camera web server cannot be opened. Also tried camera in wi-fi infrastructure mode and looked for its IP address assignment using nmap with no luck. However, it works fine with cable Ethernet. Also, we did not find the pre-assigned wi-fi SSID on the label stuck to the bottom of the unit as was promised in the user manual.

Lets face it, for what your paying to get video, audio, and PTZ controls, I actually expected less than what I got. The quality is not stellar, but its alot better than I was actually expecting. I have seen worse video quality in analog security cameras that cost alot more. Color may not be dead on accurate, but I was expecting alot worse going by some of the other reviews that mentioned this. Its close enough for a security camera/baby monitor. Your not filming a hollywood movie, It should suffice. To my untrained eyes, the colors seem accurate enough, its just a tad overexposed wherever there is strong light, and just a tad dull looking compared to actual. See attached screenshot from Blue Iris showing quality of the camera out of the box. I have not checked if the quality settings can be improved any like some of the other more expensive Chinese cameras.

Where the problems lied with me, and why it took me so long to write this review from the time i bought it, is despite the instructions they try to give you on the website, it was not very simple to figure out what IP address it had to be able to get to it. First off, you NEED to hook this up to a router, or something that has DHCP, it will not be able to hook up to a PC directly to get access to it, like most chinese cameras. It is DHCP by default, not a static IP like i was used to. If you like me and already have a bunch of stuff on your router, you will want to capture a screenshot of your DHCP table before pluggin this camera in, and compare to see what the new device is after plugging it in. Once you get this IP address, you can then go to the ip directly in the browser on a PC on your local network.
