The idea for "Kailouie and the Snorkel Monster" occurred when Daciek was swimming in Hawaii and came upon a floating plastic foam cup that had become a home for a little reef fish. The book has an environmental message and teaches a vocabulary of Hawaiian words that are delicious to say. Kailouie and his buddies, who are crabs, snails, seahorses, eels, turtles, and other sea life, lead the child through an adventure, while introducing Hawaiian mythology about the Good Wahine and Great Kahuna. About the Author
Michael R. Daciek, born in Bartley, West Virginia has lived in eleven states and two foreign countries. His overlapping careers as a commercial airline and military pilot, coupled with his large family, five children and 9 grandchildren, provide him with the experiences reqired to write about flying and children. He served twenty-one years in the United States Air Force as an officer and pilot retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. His second retirement occurred in 1993 from Continental Airlines where he last flew as a B-727 Captain. Mike has written and published three children's books and two short flying stories, "Flame-out," and "That Lonesome Old Widow," which were published in Airline Pilot Magazine. He is presently writing a fiction suspence, adventure novel, "A Change of Heart," involving murder for the purpose of a heart transplant. Mike and his wife, Joan have lived in Colorado since 1967, residing in Highlands Ranch.
