5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Strategy Sim on Andriod - Period February 23, 2013
Verified Purchase
I've been playing this game on Android for well over a year. It's the only game that is on every one of my phones (Droid 2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr Maxx) and every one of my tablets (rooted Nook Color, Xyboard 10, Galaxy 7). I go back to it every week and once you start playing you can't stop!

First, it should be known that Kairosoft has basically two types of games: building sims, where you have a ship, mall, spa and have to build it up and gain customers, unlocking more complex scenery and buildings and games like this one, where you are the owner/ manager of a company building up your company, hiring employees, determining which way to build on an RPG tech tree and level up your employees. This game is one of the later types. **Note: trials of all these Kairosoft games are available from Google Play. So if you are wondering which ones to get, check them out their first.**

Here you start with a small software company in the 80s (it doesn't say the year but the game progesses for 20 years and moves from PC to game systems that are oddly spelled versions of the real systems that came out in the correct order), and hiring 4 employees to create software games. You pick the genre of the game, the type of game (like High School Online RPG, for instance) and then use your employees to write the script, do graphics and sound. Your employees have skill points for each of these categories and rank up as you train or level them up. You can hire and fire employees and change their jobs. Ultimately, you can rank up an employee to the point where you can develop your own system! Then you game goes on sale and you watch it's earnings and rank. (You can by advertising and build your customer base as well.) Later you are up for yearly awards, which builds your customer base.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kairosoft = Quality January 24, 2013
Kairosoft is one of the most-reputable devs on Google Play. I'm delighted to see their apps here on Amazon finally. Their onoy fault is that a couple of their apps can get a bit too Japanese culturally-speaking.

GameDev Story is very similar to the PC text management games GameBiz and GameBiz 2 where the goal is to start as a small game dev and use your resources to put out better and better games as well as research new consoles and platforms to stay ahead of the curve.

Sound boring? It's not. It's a time-sucking "just one more turn" kind of game most gamers will play the everloving heck out of because it's very engrossing and approachable while still having some depth and strategy.

Hopefully Grand Prix Story, Mega Mall Story, Beastie Bay, and the rest are on their way soon. It's about time you got here, Kairosoft!

A great game where you manage a new game studio from the very advent (almost) of Video games. Starting from PC's and the earliest game consoles (As parodies e.g. Intendo "Whoops") to the most recent generation (and then a space probe thingy) this game allows you to make some very wacky combinations of genres and themes, like a cowboy themed dating simulator (genre), though most of zany combinations don't work. you will use combinations of 8 different employee types to work on making games, doing various contract work, and eventually, a console.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game and crazy addictive December 31, 2012

I love this game on iOS so I have no worries that this version will be any different. After I got the hang of it I couldn't put it down. I do even like gaming on mobile devices. Once you learn the ropes you wont regret this purchase. Tip: Do a lot of contract work before your first game to build up your funds.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUN!! January 21, 2013

This was such a fun game that I felt obligated to write a review. This game is so refreshing and creative!! It runs flawlessly on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and I never experienced any glitch problems. I love how the game keeps building on what you create and it never gets mundane. I am definitely looking forward to buying all other available games from Kairosoft. It's so worth the price!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and Well-Worth It February 4, 2013
Verified Purchase
I purchased this game due to a friend's recommendation, and have not been disappointed. At merely $2.50 on the Kindle, this version is only half as expensive as the iOS version, with no cuts reducing functionality.

The game neatly sums up the windfalls and pitfalls of the video-game industry, and manages to pay homage to the history of games without resorting to cheap nostalgia laughs or pop-culture jokes.

5/5: for clever humor, pretty(but not overdone) graphics, an easy-to-use interface, and intuitive, yet challenging gameplay.

My initial runthrough of GDS was great. In the beginning, I really liked learning about some of the inner workings of a gaming company, even in its very small scope in this game. However, I will make the obvious statement that the game became a lot easier later on, and I kept on releasing #1 selling games. I never won the top award, though.

The replay value went down during my second runthrough of the game. They never had the annual gaming awards or the annual convention in the second runthrough, which confused me. If this had been fixed, definitely four stars.

Graphics and sound are adequate for this type of game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flash Game - What a Feeling February 10, 2013
Verified Purchase
It is a typical management game and a bit more streamlined than other game studio simulators on the market. The primary fun of the game is less the playing and more the feeling that you are building a successful studio up from making terrible, terrible games to becoming a titan in the industry. The feeling that you were doing well carried me all the way through to the end of the game even after I realized the hollowness of some of the elements. It did not motivate me enough for a second play-through as it felt like it lacked additional customization features like designing your studio or the game; the game your studio produced would be good or bad seemed more directed by the training of your staff than any real direction of the player. It is priced for a good once through, and you will enjoy that time. You can almost enjoy the game purely from trying to think of clever game titles, or what you think is clever at any rate.
